so being a diabetic there is a few options for me... (pancreas stopped working from a chemo treatment)
cant take the pills because my pancreas basically shut down so i have to take 5-8 shots a day.. and also use the meter and poke my finger 5-8 times per day..
i was given a option. the insulin pump... it looks like a small pager that is hooked to a canula...
thing with the pump is it dispurses 5 units of insulin every 1/2 hr. to place the pump it is a invasive procedure where they go in thru the side and connect it to a artery or vein, take 6 weeks to fully heal and they have to change locations every 9mths or so. it disconnects during exercise, shower and sleep. it automatically takes your glucose thru the machine.... retail $10K for installation you need a referal which i have..
will be in place of my pancreas/take over until my pancreas itself heals and then i dont need it at all.
so scared because of the procedure, but also sick of taking shots need some advice. |
