Ronin's blog: "Fight Night"

Ok so I guess everyone wants to know how my fight went Saturday night. Let's just say.....IT FELT GOOD!!! First of all, thank ya'll for helping me choose my entrance music. It was a hit!!

The event was called "Combat Warriors International". It is an event that sponsors both Muay Thai and MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). The event hosts two rings. A standard square 18 foot boxing ring, and a 17 foot octagon cage (similar to what you see on UFC). Typically on a fight card, there are up to 26 fights in one night. A LOT of action!!!! The fights are juggled usually.....3 MMA fights, then 1 Muay Thai fight, alternating as such starting with Muay Thai as the first fight of the night. I am 6'3" and when not training for a fight....I weigh about 225lbs on average. For this fight, I had to cut weight down to 185lbs which would put me in the "Light Heavyweight" division. My fight team is called Universal Fighting Systems (UFS). My oppenent's name was Marco Callison. He was 5'9" and weighed 185lbs as well. I have to give him MUCH respect. He gave a hell of a fight!

On to the action:

Marco was called to the red corner first. Walking out to White Zombie's "Dragula" with the red spotlight on him, he steps into the ring, walks over to the blue corner and knees the turnbuckle.  I guess that was supposed to frighten me :D Then, as my music started ("Release Yo'self" by Method Man), the blue spotlight shined on the tunnel as I walked out. It has been a long time since I heard my name announced for a fight. I walk with my fight team train behind me, hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them, my hands held in prayer. I step over the top rope and into the ring. Suddenly the world around me became distant and my mind was focused on Marco. I bow to my corner and begin my Wai Kru dance to Ram Muay. (Google if you don't know) :-P After the dance, I take my mouth piece, get a shoulder rub quickly from my corner and the bell sounds. I meet Marco in the center of the ring and touch shins for good luck. At first, the fight moved slow. A kick here, a punch there. Just feeling each other out, trying to get measurements of distance and strength. I threw a teap to his face which got the fight heated and more intense. About 20 seconds left, we get into a clench, trading knees into each other's body. On the break of the clench, I get caught on the lip with a left elbow busting my lip. This pissed me off badly. As I move back in towards him, the bell rings before I could light him up. End round 1. My cutman got me to stop bleeding and my mouth piece was put back into my mouth. I stand up and stare across the ring at Marco STILL pissed that he cut my lip with his elbow. The bell rings and round 2 begins. He makes his way to the center of the ring, gloves up wanting to touch them to show good luck. I had other intentions. I ran quickly across the ring and caught him in the ribs with a flying knee, breaking one of his ribs. He goes down. The ref steps in and sends me to the neutral corner as he gives Marco an 8 count. Marco gets up and says he can continue. So the ref says "FIGHT!". I make my way over to him and as I approach, he throws a round kick. I check the kick with my leg and return a right round kick to the same place as the knee breaking a second rib. He goes down again and the ref stops the fight 37 seconds into the second round. Winner by TKO......ME!!!
