lildillydumpling's blog: "Say what?"

created on 03/15/2009  |  http://fubar.com/say-what/b285304

ramblings ...

I started this as a test for another user but got rates, so feel I should add something more substantial.

But then I forgot.

And I looked at my previous blogs and really only have the same thing to say, over and over ... we all would do well to get over ourselves. Me included.

So, here's my word: you are responsible for your account: your password, your security, the images you post (even privately), the people to whom you give access to your pages, your thoughts, your feelings.

I can't even count the number of people in the last few months who come to the support lounge asking for help with "hacked" accounts or "stolen" pictures. Neither of which we can do anything about.

If you post a photo anywhere on the Internet, if you even email a photo, or share it in any way, you lose control over its further use and distribution. Unless the photo is copyrighted and you have documentation from the Library of Congress (which isn't that difficult, really ... tho it may have a cost associated), fubar administration is unable to intervene.

If you create a complicated password, write it down somewhere private. And use something different than the password for the email account :)

And then take deep breaths. I often wish that people would spend as much time looking for cures to cancer, homelessness, and worldwide starvation as they do in exploring mischief and mayhem, but until then ... try to keep yourself safe.

As a bouncer I have the opportunity to review hundrds of salutes each week. Since the screen name is supposed to match the name on the salute sign, I pay a little more attention to it than I might otherwise.
I see people with creative names, some really sad EMO ones ... and some kinda obnoxious, too :)
Mine is a name someone on another social site gave me ... I used a variation of my first name there and we were discussing names ... she said that she thought I was a dilly dumpling, a little one ;) ... and I liked how that made me feel.
Before that I had (have?) an online persona that developed many years ago at a site called breakupgirl.com. I was a participant on the site when it was about relationships and advice and I chose that to help me stay focused on the attributes I wanted to have: loyalty, adventurous, and honorable. But it really wasn't *me*. So, I made the switch when I joined fubar to be truthful about myself as I am.
How did you choose your fubar screen name?
