Last night was the annual work Christmas party. Considering I wasn't exactly sure if I really wanted to go, the night turned out suprisingly well, until the drive home. Every year in October my staff and I start the tedious process of finding the poverty stricken and homeless in our community who will not be able to have a Christmas. This is my baby, for I can't stand the thought of someone going hungry or not getting a gift on Christmas. I work hard all year to find donations to fund our project and interview people for suitable volunteers to help with the project. We buy clothing and one toy for each child, take the food needed for a Christmas dinner, and on Christmas Day we prepare a Christmas dinner for the homeless. This past Friday, 4 days before Christmas, someone turned in the names of 125 more children who would be getting nothing for Christmas. I went into a panic something I never do at work. This was Friday morning. The next two days would be Saturday and Sunday and we would not be working. Monday morning we would start loading the trucks at 6am with gifts and food. An old man and woman were married for years, even though they hated each other. When they had a confrontation, screaming and yelling could be heard deep into the night. The old man would shout, "When I die, I will dig my way up and out of the grave and come back and haunt you for the rest of your life!" Why does it seem like we have forgotten the meaning of christmas? Is christmas just about the gift giving? Isnt christmas more about giving and not getting? Isnt it about being with family and forgetting about the stresses of life? Its not about the gifts its about the ones you love. Some say it is just another day, yes it is but it is a special day. it is a day for being with family and sharing the joy. We shouldnt put so much pressure on ourselves and others on gifts. yes it is nice to have gifts but its better to be with family. 2 slices Italian bread, torn into small pieces 1/2 Cup milk 2 Tblsp. finely chopped fresh Italian parsley 2 cloves finely chopped garlic 1 teaspoon salt 1 egg lightly beaten 1 pound beef chuck, ground twice 6 Tblsp. freshly grated Romano cheese 1 Tblsp. olive oil 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt Freshly ground black pepper 1 Tblsp. oregano Soak the pieces of bread in 1/2 cup milk for 5 minutes, then squeeze them dry an discard the milk.
