Conservation!
I keep seeing these ads on TV telling us how we should conserve more and use less of pretty much everything! It occurs to me though that if if we simply had fewer children, that would do more to help save the planet and make life better than all the conservation and energy-efficient vehicles and homes combined! Conserving is all nice and good, but how about promoting the idea of having fewer children as well? Smaller more tightly knit families where the parents can "invest" more time, attention and resources in their kids would do wonders for our population and the planet in general IMO. Think about it! Why is it so politically incorrect to promote having fewer children? I get sick at my stomach every time I hear of a new mother who had 4 or 5 babies at once, or families with 5 or 6 children or more! To me that's just wrong. We each take up space and consume scarce resources in this world, there needs to be fewer of us and *we* need to be of high quality! Smaller families WOULD

So far this blog has pretty much made clear that the existence of anything is a remarkable and mysterious feat. One problem we have in this universe is properly identifying the role of consciousness. The thing is, we are products of the universe. In other words, one way or another - there was this "universe" and we were forged within it - inseperable from it if you will. If we are conscious and sentient beings observing and trying to understand the universe around us, then it is undeniable that the universe has developed consciousness, and is in the act of observing itself - EVEN IF ONLY VIA US. This then begs the question.. what are the origins of consciousness? When did the universe first develop consciousness? Is consciousness only manifested in the complex workings of a brain? CONSISTENCY OF AWARENESS It has been a very interesting year. We have been settling into our new city and into our new home. But I have been feeling the need to get back to the blog. So I will start off with something I heard this past Sunday. Majida and I go into New York City about once a month. We go for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is to take a Tai Chi class on Sunday mornings. The class is given by this little 85 year old lady who was a student of Chen Man Cheng in the early 70's. We cannot get to our old teacher, Ed Young, because he only teaches on Monday night and that is impossible. So we go to his old friend, Maggie Newman. Her style is a bit different from his but just as effective. We do enjoy her classes. She was the one that I heard the title of this blog from. She speaks very softly so her class of about 20 people was gathered close around her. She was talking about a specific aspect of the Tai Chi form when something reminded her of a story

Consistency & Subject.
In the hustle and bustle of things, it's hard to stay in or keep a perspective. In as much as it is possible we all try to keep a sense of direction, usually hindered or helped by the circumstances that define our daily lives. The hectic pace of the past couple of weeks and the next couple of weeks to come has unbalanced me, when I am already inconsistent and random as is. The urge to write and to create is constant but I see I have to set like a day each week, to force me to disengage myself from the daily grind or avalanche of distractions that envelop me and actually think and reflect on things. A creative outlet or exercise has value in and of itself after all, as a release and product of the self. As a reflection of ourselves and where we are, mentally, emotionally or physically. It relates back to what I wrote some time ago about fundamentalism and speaks to the fundamentalist beliefs of people from different backgrounds than you usually consider to be fundamentalists. I work for a floral wire service. The biggest one there is membership wise, and no it isn't FTD. I've worked in lots of departments dealing with customers who bought flowers, to flower shops needing computer assistance. So just like I imagine anyone that deals with retail does I've heard a lot of ridiculous stuff and dealt with a lot of people who's stupidity baffled me. Today I had one that made me speechless. Considering Surgery.....
Well here goes it. I have been losing weight and those of us that have weight issues know that afterwards there are areas of the body that just need fixed. This is all new to me, the fixing me up part so I am not sure where I should even begin. I am not a gorgeous woman nor am I very pretty. (these are my internal thoughts) I have really let myself go over the last 6 years. Maybe I have done so due to depression, unhappiness or I have just lost my way along this journey. Any way that I look at it I really need to make some serious changes. I am not happy being overweight. I have become this jealous monster inside. I have begun to hate who I am. The thoughts of dying cross my mind daily but I can't follow through with them because of my children and the man I love so deeply and passionately. BUT then again this part of me that is "sick" inside thinks it is the answer to how I feel inside and out. So where do I begin? ONE: I need to change my internal thinking. How do I do that?

A Controversial "saftey" Feature.
A good number of autoloading handguns are starting to come with a feature that prevents the weapon from firing if the magazine is removed from the weapon. The *ONLY* good reason I have heard for this is the fact that if someone is being successful at "grabbing" your gun, releasing the magazine before they get it will disable the weapon. The main problem is that this creates a false sense of safety. The owner might get into the habit of dropping the magazine and leaving a loaded round in the chamber (which is "safe" as far as not being able to fire it off). But the problem comes when they forget that the round is in there, and don't check, insert an empty magazine to do some dry firing, and BANG! Another problem is that lets say you are in a pretty bad situation with this weapon (multiple assailants) or that someone just manages to surprise you when reloading. If you are reloading before empty, you would have one in the chamber, but be unable to fire it while changing magazines.

In recent weeks I have learned to be more bold, and be less controlled by my fears. Many things happened this weekend. Friday, wearing my new cargo pants and hippie crinkled spaghetti-strap shirt, no bra, I walked around Disneyland w/ my boyfriend. Taking humor in the stares I was attracting. Saturday, w/ my boyfriend and two friends. We went to Castle Rock to go repelling. Just North of the dam on the South end of Big Bear Lake, we parked the car and started a 1 mile hike to Castle Rock. Looking up from the base of the rocks, it does not seem so high. Continuing to hike around the NW side of the rocks, we climbed up to the top.
