Winter List Clean Up

Winter Sucks
Winter time really does suck. We got about 3 to 4 inches of snow this past weekend and well this snow isn't going away. The roads are an icy mess and people are dumb and don't slow down. I hate winter time in Alaska and unfortunately it will be here until April which really sucks.

Winter Wonderland
It had been biting cold for about a week. Frost grew in geometric shapes all over everything. It was the kind of cold that made your nose freeze up when you breathed in through it and make you cough from it hitting your lungs. The kind of cold where when you exhaled your breath lingered like small clouds wafting away on a breeze. The weatherman said it was supposed to warm up and change to snow. I thought he might be right by the looks of the clouds coming on the horizon. They were slow but dark, almost foreboding. Ok... so I wrote this back when I was still in highschool in May of 2001 as a matter of fact, enjoy. "Slowly the mass walks to the hill, jaded by the misery that is winter. Quietly they stand, awaiting the embrace of the sun, a symbol of a new day and of seasons passing. One by one they kneel before the altar and pray to the gods to take them away from this fate. The sky darkens and the rain slowly begins to fall to cleanse the mass of all it's grief, for now it is time for them to walk down the pathway of eternity. In this ceremony nothing is sacred except the raputre of mortal men's souls evolving to join the spirits of all immortal destiny. Winter Break Is Coming To A Close
I went and bought my books for the Spring semester. This semester is full of calculus, chemistry, and philosophy and of course a PE class. $309.00 on books and I am not yet ready to go back to class... I have 11 more days before my return! Well this quarter I am taking English 151, Math 101, and Public Speaking. I have my first paper due for English this Tuesday. It is a true story about what happened to me as a child. We get back from snowboarding, the day has been long and the air is filled with the crisp cold of mid-winter. You pull off your coat, shivering as the melting snow drips down your back, leaving a cold trail down the middle of your spine. Loud crashes sound behind you as I throw wood in the fireplace and light it. Nows the time to get your home ready for winter. If you live in an area that experiences sub-freezing temperature during the winter you need to make sure your pipes are protected against the cold. Wrap them in pipe insulation wrapping to protect against them freezing and breaking. Put weather stripping around your doors, and check around your windows for drafts. I wanted to share a little something with my friends. This was very emotional for me to write. I don't express my feelings when it comes to this subject for many reasons. Everyone has commented that I am like a rock....well that again is for many reasons. Maybe it is my maternal instinct to protect those around me. He has known its been coming since the middle of summer and throughout autumm. He's been working hard through the day hauling hay, getting the barn ready, checking lights and etc. His 5 yr olds without realizing it are being taught a valuable lesson one they will never forget. Sorry I have been out of touch recently, but I just had one hell of a week. I lost my power on Tuesday around 6:30pm of last week. I just got it back today (Monday) around 1am or so when I heard my heater kick back on. The past week between was lived without any power or heat of any kind. The ice storm had froze all the trees until the weight caused them all to split and fall. Houses, cars, power lines, and everything else you can imagine was crushed by them. It pretty much devastated the whole state of Ky with most of the damage in the western part, where I have been so lucky to live. My whole family lives out in this little county away from the city, which they seem to like until this. They have been told that it will be around a month before they get power and home phones back up. A MONTH!! Oh am I ever ready for the season ahead. Today Ive spent most of my day outside getting everything ready. Been doing stuff Im not supposed to do - but Im DONE! Winter Reflections
Not really a Rant: Those of you who know me, have heard me speak of my pet coyote (more correctly a coy/dog, coyote/pitbull). She's now 12 1/2 yrs. old and age is catching up with her fast. This morning i took her out into the back yard to let her get her morning excercise and it as the first morning with any real snow of this season. Watching her try to romp and search for the familiar scent was bittersweet. The morning of the first snow has always been special. Having been born in July, yup a Cancer coyote, her first snow ever was hilarious. The bunny trails she loved to run were covered and watching her react was hilarious. There were the years with my kids, both when we were a family and the years after. Now it's just me and the coyote. It makes me wonder about the speed at which time moves, i hardly feel old inside, but in reality old injuries have crept up and become arthritis and i move slow these days. it's very rare that i become angry enough to whine. i'm usually pretty good at taking things in stride and letting the crap roll off of my back, but today something happened that is way over the line. i'm the automation geek for a small company that makes packaging machinery, and we're in the middle of a million+ dollar project for a very large customer. we're under contract to deliver four machines to them, all of which were supposed to have been installed by the end of 2008. because of numerous change orders and having to learn a lot of new technology, it has taken way longer than anyone had anticipated. so far, we have installed only one of the machines. the second one has been built, and i'm in the process of programming it. i'm very close to being able to test cycle this machine, but not quite. one or two more days should get me there. i should explain that as the programmer, i am the last one to work on the machine before it is commissioned. so righ or wrong, from th

i had a conversation with my boss this morning about the customer i wrote about in part one. to give a little more background on this... the start-up for the first machine was at a time when i was extremely busy with other projects, so my boss had his son do the programming for it. he doesn't have much experience with programming, so i gave him a copy of another program and told him to use it as a template. he didn't do as i instructed and wrote the program from scratch. the way he wrote it made it impossible to debug it without re-writing significant portions of the code, so it took me a very long time to get the bugs worked out of it. even then, the program still has issues. i spent over a month at the customer site working on it. in retrospect, it would have been much better to just re-write the program completely, but the customer would not allow me time to do that because they were behind on their production schedule. i did re-write the program for the second machine, f

When do they usually grow in? I was always under the impression it was a late teen years thing, but just recently mine have started coming in (I'm 23.) I kind of forgot wisdom teeth even existed... I can't ask a dentist either. I take really awesome care of my teeth, but after my childhood dentist was thrown in jail for attaching razor blades to his sons football helmet so he'd slice up the kids on the other team (how the hell could I make that up?) Well I had to get two Wisdom teeth pulled On Tuesday and I wonder why they call them Wisdom teeth when they are not smart at all. The Dr. Had both of them out and had me all stitched up in about 10 mins and I didn't even feel a thing until I got home about an hour later when the numbing went away and then I felt like I was hit in the face with a 2x4. I did find a new friend for the time being, It's name was Lortab, Took a couple of them and woke up 4 hours later just in time for another. I even had a juicy steak in a can (beef Broth) last night since I couldn't chew. I did manage to eat a sandwich at lunch today but it hurt. I figure a few more days before I can sink into a real steak. It seems to me that the past few weeks I have paid money out to people just to inflict pain on me. First I paid my artist for 5 hours of ink and then I paid the Oral Surgeon to Pull my teeth. Hell maybe I'll give the kid down the street a nickel to kick me in the leg next.

I'm thinking about starting to look for another job, like one that I'm getting my degree in. Does anyone have any advice on how to go about looking for another job and keeping the one without burning bridges. This is such a sketchy area and in the past I've failed miserably with it. People who have managed to do this please tell me how you went about going to interviews and explaining to your perspective employer how you tell them you're not really telling your current employer yet.
