CHICAGO - Civil cases involving a historic black cemetery where former employees are accused of digging up graves to resell plots are due back in court.
A judge had been expected to rule Tuesday on whether to give a court-appointed receiver the money he said was needed to reopen the shuttered cemetery.
But a bankruptcy filing last week by the graveyard's owner has complicated matters.
The filing means that the receiver no longer runs Burr Oak, and operations have reverted back to the owner, Perpetua Burr-Oak Holdings of Illinois LLC.
That move has angered many who have relatives buried there.
Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has asked a bankruptcy judge to appoint a trustee to oversee the cemetery.
Burr Oak has been closed since July.
