Revolutionary War Heroes
You’re probably familiar with a lot of the stories and the heroes of the American Revolution. Names like Franklin, Washington, Jefferson, Hancock, Adams and so many more. But there are many more heroes you never heard about and their acts of bravery that changed the course of history.
While school kids learn of Paul Revere’s ride, few hear about the brave teenager, who at only 16 years old rode 40 miles on a moonless night in 1777, to call the troops to arms after the British attacked a supply depot in Danbury, Connecticut.
And nobody ever hears about a very young and brave teenager by the name of Champion, who galloped for two solid days through enemy lines to carry intelligence information to General Washington, or 14-year-old E. Geiger who rode 100 miles through the treacherous snake infested South Carolina swamps to deliver orders to General Thomas Sumter, 14 times!
Or the teenager who crossed the Appomattox River, alone and at night, to warn General Lafayette of a planned British attack.
Or the 16-year-old who warned the Americans of British plans to attack the coast. Or Barrington Darragh, who spied on a meeting of British commanders and crossed enemy lines to alert Washington to a plan to ambush his troops at White Marsh, Pennsylvania.
They were heroes too. And all of them were very young. But they fought for their country, just like their fathers and older brothers. Brave young people. But something more you didn’t know. In addition to being teenagers....all of them were young ladies and our country will always be thankful.
