AMISH FRIENDSHIP BREAD
Important tips: No metal utensils & Do NOT refrigerate
Starter:
1 C. Flour
1 C. Sugar
1 C. Milk
DIRECTIONS:
Put ingredients in a zip lock baggie and do the following
On the days indicated.
Day 1 Do nothing
Day 2 Squeeze excess air out of bag
Day 3 Squeeze bag
Day 4 Squeeze bag
Day 5 Squeeze bag
Day 6 Add one cup EACH Sugar, Flour, and Milk
Day 7 Squeeze bag
Day 8 Squeeze bag
Day 9 Squeeze bag
Day 10 Add one cup EACH Sugar, Flour, and Milk
Take 3 cups mixture and put one cup at a time into new zip
lock bags. This is now starter for your friends.
To your batter, add the following ingredients:
2 C. Flour
1 C. Sugar
1 C. Oil
1/2 C. Milk
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
2 tsp cinnamon
1 lg. box vanilla instant pudding mix
Grease your bread pan and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
Add batter to pan and sprinkle top with cinnamon sugar as
well. Bake at 325 degrees farenheit for one hour.
Another recipe using your starter:
1 cup batter
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup oil
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
Stir all together until well mixed. Add 1/2 cup or more of
any 1,2,3 or 4 of the following: raisins, dates, nuts,
oatmeal, bran flakes, chopped apples, bananas, grated carrot,
zucchini, chocolate chips, applesauce with additional flour
or oatmeal
Bake in 2 greased and sugared loaf pans, at 350 deg. F.
for 45-50 minutes.
Amish Friendship Bread Starter
Ingredients:
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water (110 degrees F)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1 cup warm (110 degrees F) milk
Directions:
In a small bowl, soften yeast in water for about 10 minutes.
Stir well. In a 2 quart container glass, plastic, or ceramic
container combine flour, and sugar. Mix thoroughly or flour
will lump when milk is added. Slowly stir in milk and dissolved
yeast mixture. Cover loosely and let stand at room temperature
until bubbly. Consider this day 1 of the 10 day cycle.
On days 2 thru 4 stir with a spoon. Day 5 stir and add 1 cup
sifted flour, 1 cup sugar and 1 cup milk and stir. Days 6 thru
9 stir only. Day 10 stir and add 1 cup sifted flour, 1 cup
sugar and 1 cup milk and stir. Remove 1 cup and make your
first bread, and give one cup to a friend with the recipe.
Store the remaining cup in a container in the refrigerator and
begin the 10 day process over again. You can also freeze this
in 1 cup for later use. Frozen starter take a least 3 hours at
room temperature before using.

Amish Cinnamon Bread
This bread can be frozen and is very easy to make.
Ingredients:
1 cup Amish Friendship Bread Starter.
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup white sugar
4 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 (3 ounce) package instant pudding vanilla or banana
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup chopped peeled apples or 2 medium bananas
1 cup raisins
Directions:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease three
9x5 inch loaf pans.
Place the starter in a bowl, stir in the oil, sugar, eggs
and vanilla and mix well.
Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, instant pudding,
and cinnamon. Add the flour mixture to the starter mixture and
beat by hand. Add the pecans, raisins and apples or bananas and
mix well. Pour batter into the prepared pans.
Bake at 325 degrees F (165 degrees C) for 1 hour.
Makes 3 loaves.
Fruit & Nuts Friendship Cake
1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 cup sugar
2 cups all purpose flour
2/3 cup vegetable oil
2 teaspoons baking powder
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped apples
3 cups starter
1 cup raisins or chopped nuts
1 egg plus 2 egg whites
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl, set aside.
In another large bowl mix starter, egg and whites, sugar,
oil and vanilla. Add flour mixture, apples and raisins or
nuts. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan or 9 x 11
loaf pan. Bake at 350°F for 50 to 60 minutes. Cool, dust
with powdered sugar.
Note: Any combination of fruit and nuts can be used as long
as the total equals 2 cups. Try crushed, drained pineapples,
dates, pecans, or almonds.
