I was thinking today how online sometimes becomes like a reality show. On a reality show the producers take people and turn them into characters. They then only show you footage to further make you see that person a certain way. If they decide to make someone the drama queen you'll really only see footage of that person causing drama, being overdramatic, etc. Even though maybe in reality that person was only dramatic 10% of the time and the other 90% of the time was an awesome person.
Or you'll have the bad boy/girls who you want to hate and smack. The people running the show will keep making sure the footage you see makes you dislike that person. They won't show you the times the bad boy/girl was staying up late comforting someone who was upset. They won't show that person doing things for others just for the hell of it.
Online gets like that. You have the people who really know you and realize there's more to you than just one side. Then you have the people who might hear you're a drama queen or smartass or never serious or mean and instantly they twist anything you say or do as being that way. In their eyes you could say something joking and they twist it into you being a smartass. Or you could say something sincere and they think you are joking. The worst is then they can become like a TV producer if they are relaying messages to other people. Instead of being realistic they take your words, twist them around and make you into the character they think you are. Even when they are wrong.
Think about it. Online what we say is just written words. You can say wow and the person reading it can take it lots of ways. They can take it as WOW and you being excited. They could take it as you going wow like whatever and being a punk about it. It's like how someone can say something and you think they are mad/upset and they aren't. Or you take it as them being serious when they are joking. I admit I'm guilty of that at times. And I also know I'm a victim of it cause I know people out there take me only certain ways so anything I say is twisted that way.
I'm the person who can say something joking and it's twisted into me being a smartass. I can say something serious and it's taken as me joking. Not saying that always is the case. Like I said people who really know me are able to really read what I say the right way.
But it's just something to think about. Think about how online you can almost become like a reality TV show member. People can make you into a character if they don't really know you and then everything you say/do they instantly twist into that character they made. Whether it's the jokster, the drama queen, the partier, the goofball, the prude and so forth.
