READ ME!

I've always been told that you should avoid political discussion with most individuals, as you should religious.  However, Im going to assume that the vast majority of you have some type of intelligence floating around in your brains, somewhere, even if it is an *extremely* small amount for some.

I’m crazy unhappy about the Koran burning party that some preacher is trying to throw in Florida tomorrow, in remembrance of 9/11.  It makes me angry to a point that I didn’t think it was possible to be at a preacher, other than Westboro Baptist's lunatic leader.  I don’t understand "Christian" leaders, who advocate hate towards other religions, or people, or anyone at all really.  Even if they look at it and say "9/11 was Muslims, this must be they all advocate violence", it’s still stupid, based on a couple of key points.

1.       Not ALL Muslims advocate acts such as 9/11.  I personally know a few people of this religion...and *none* of them advocate events like this.  The people that advocate this are a radical group, which all Muslims are not a member of (Shi'ites vs. Sunis, go look it up,   I promise it’s there.)

2.      Even if that *vastly incorrect* generalization is your stance, shall we take a look back in Christian history for a moment?  Crusades, Salem Witch Trials, the larger part of the old testament, are all things that are a part of Christian history.  Should we say, then,             that all Christians, who will kill for their religion, based on the fact that people aren’t members of it?  And if this is the truth, shouldn’t we also be burning Bibles?

The fact that this is occurring at all continues to baffle me.

1.      This guy has tried this before.  It was a huge flop, that he himself is quoted as saying turned out to be “lame”.  In the end, people ended up burning computers and wallets that were also made in the Middle East (and with this guys’ intelligence level, I would be willing to guess he left everything in the wallet), and people actually passed out from the fumes of burning computers.

2.      Have we not heard of the printing press?  Just because you personally do not own a Koran, does not mean that Joe down the street does not, nor does it mean that Joe is going to quit being a Muslim because you threw a temper tantrum (complete with fire).  It merely means that you spent money on buying a Koran (because you didn’t have one before, because they are evil, they advocate blowing up stuff up), and set it on fire.

3.      A man who sells them sold out last time and said that they were helping his business—for every one these people are buying and burning, he can get 3.  You are, in effect, helping people who sell these things, likely being people who practice the religion.  That, obviously, is not what you were going for.

4.      Let’s not forget the Internets, where an unlimited supply of Korans sit, waiting for people to read them.  Burning computers is a bad idea, I’d say we learned that last time.  So, are you going to call the Internets police? Are you going to e-burn the books?  There is no way to combat this issue.

I said all that to say this.  The Koran burning is *not* a reminder of 9/11 to me, or to anyone I know.  It’s a reminder of the ignorance and bigotry that is still present in this country.

All that being said, Im posting this blog for an intelligent discussion.  If you cannot join said intelligent discussion, because you are either incapable of conveying your intelligent thoughts in a way that demonstrates you have them, or because you simply do not have them, don’t bother.  I will be deleting stupid arguments.  Mind you, disagreeing with me does not make you stupid, I would still love to hear your thoughts.  Just make sure you do it with some decency.
