tiki's blog: "rants"

created on 12/20/2010  |  http://fubar.com/rants/b338375

ok so today i was looking at federal holidays (Holidays that schools, federal offices and most businesses are close) and i noticed something VERY odd.

There are religious holidays that have been around FOREVER example: Christmas and Easter. then there are traditional holidays like Thanksgiving and Independance Day. And holidays like Columbus Day Or Martin Luther King Jr. day. now im in the Army and yeah we have Memorial Day, but what about Veterans Day¿ there are no school closing for the people who go to war and come back¿ yeah i understand well "thats what Memorial Day is for". NO WRONG NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!! >Memorial Day is a federal holiday observed on the last Monday of May, formerly known as Decoration Day, it commemerates the U.S. Soldiers who have DIED while in military service.< >Veterans Day also known as Armistice Day, and (although rarely in the US) occasionally called "Remembrance Day", 'Veterans Day' is the American name for the international holiday which commemorates the signing of the Armistice ending World War I. In the United States, the holiday honors all veterans of the United States Armed Forces, whether or not they have served in a conflict; but it especially honors the surviving veterans of World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. The American holiday was briefly moved to the final Monday in October under the Uniform Monday Holiday Act, but the change was greatly disliked and soundly criticized - among other reasons, because it put Veterans Day out of sync with international observance; so it was restored to November 11.< but the funny thing is i found out today that most schools and businesses don't close for this holiday. I even remember going to school on the day and giviing a speech my senior year in high school after i joined to tell about the Army and what it is like and what i have learned and how i felt while in uniform. and they kept me in class the rest of the day when i could have been out celebrating the coming home of my brothers in arms and fellow Soldiers, Seamen, Marines, and Airmen that i serve next to. Why is it that we have off of school for Columbus¿ He didn't even really find America, he just brought people over on a boat and settled. even though there were already people here. And what about Martin Luther King Jr. Day? yeah he stood for equality amongst colored and white people and got shot. but why? Why do we celebrate the DEATH of him and not the SURVIVAL of our Armed Forces¿ REALLY¿ people, come on, the life of all the military men and women getting shot at everyday during deployments, the long time without a hug from their loved ones, nothing but a friend that might not be there the next day to talk and stress to; ain't worth A DAY off for the WHOLE country? i'm not dissin the other holidays in no way but i'm just throwing what people overlook out into the open!!! i think there should be some sort of movement or something to make the country like close down for that ONE day. oh and another thing: FUCK "HAPPY HOLIDAYS" THE CALENDAR HOLIDAY IS MARKED "CHRISTMAS"!!!! I SWEAR I'M GOING TO PUMMEL THE NEXT PERSON WHO SAYS IT TO ME!!! I'm not Catholic or christian or anything like that but DAMN!!! fuck the rest of them it "MERRY FUCKING CHRISTMAS"!!!!!!!!!!  GO ALL THE WAY OR NOT AT ALL!!!!!  if you are goin to be politically correct don't be half assed about it!!! thats my rant for the day just wanted to get that off my chest
