PSA: Beware of What You Download! New Virus Going Around!
Message: There is a virus going around all social web sites that's in the news that we want to make sure everyone is aware of called Koobface and also Spyware Protect 2009. The virus often looks like a message from a friend but will put some malware on your computer if you download the link.
Ways to Remove the Virus
Here are some things you can do if you suspect your computer has a virus ...
1. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop: Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. For complete instructions, print this page. The software is free and may help clean your computer of known viruses. Use this software, as with any software, at your own risk. Some members have noted that they have up-to-date anti-virus protection that did not detect these new viruses. This software appears to help clean it up.
2. Ensure You Have Internet Extensions Enabled on the Anti-virus Software You Use. Keep your anti-virus software up to date. If you don't have anti-virus software, Norton, AVG, and McAfee have products that may help.
3. If you still can't get rid of it, try programs like Adaware or Moosoft.
4. Download Microsoft's free Microsoft Windows Defender to remove spyware and adware. This can help especially if the virus is using Internet Explorer, which is often the case. After cleaning up Internet Explorer, you may also want to consider using a browser like Firefox, Safari, or Google Chrome. We find Google Chrome to be one of the fastest browsers to use myYearbook or other sites.
