PROMISES BROKEN
As I was looking out the window
with sun glasses on
nso no one would notice I was crying
I happened to notice it
blowing down the street
between car tires and bypasser's shoes
While I was waiting for the red to fade
it circled endlessly in each dusty gust
then soared hysterically high and higher
until it dive nosed down dizzily
hitting the pavement
my eyes which thought the journey ended
followed as it noiselessly slid on
in its non-ending dance
no worse for the the wear and tear
and uncertainty of it all
I should have known after all who else but a plastic bag and me
could survive a breathless
roller coaster ride
up up one moment down down the next
from each of her new and broken promises
