I'm glad that they went back and used some of the concepts in the original Alien script that got cut for budget reasons (The Alien was originally found in a pyramid and the "facehugger" was contained in urns).It does not bother me that the "xenomorph" isnt in the film,the pictogram of it on the wall (seen in the trailer) is enough for me. Ridley always said that the Alien was a small part of a bigger society and he would love to go back to their home planet and explain the mystery of the "Space Jockey" pilot.Giger designed the alien ship as a sort of "bomber" craft that had silos which dropped the eggs on unfortunate planets.I always speculated these beings had created the Xenomorphs as bio-weapons to wipe out entire planetary populations.The original Alien life cycle strongly supports this theory Giger said in one commentary that it's life was extremely short which would have served their creators purpose and the beast completed it's own reproductive cycle by maiming and coccooning one victim(Dallas) and injecting another with a DNA mutagen via the tail stinger which transformed the body into an egg (Brett).This made the creature far more horrific and unpredictable in my opinion and served the needs of their creators best (The Aliens wipe out all life,die,and the "Jockeys" collect the remaining eggs which is how I theroize was the way that the fossilized pilot had gotten infected due to some malfunction or error when it was loading the remaining eggs into the ships cargo bay).The "Jockeys" had mastered DNA to the point that they bonded with machines becoming bio-mechanoid creatures probably to prolong their lives to near immortality and propelled them to an almost god-like state.The scene in the trailer where they find the "urn" room with the human face on the wall proves they engineered humans (possibly all life) as well.The Alien DNA is apparently contained in these urns from the brief glimpse we get of something slimy bubbling to the surface and the "acid blast" that hits the face of one of the explorers.The set up with the Earth pyramids all correlating the same star chart is in my opinion a failsafe the "Jockey" race created to lure their creations to the homeworld in the event that they evolved the intellect to decipher the pyramid riddle and the capabilities of space travel.Any of their creations that attained this level of technology would be considered a threat to their probable dominion of the universe and a bomber ship would be deployed to infect the home planet of the intruders.I hate to bring in anything about the sequels (Aliens was great but the queen doomed the series to predictable mediocraty) but consider AvP.The Yautja (predators) are the only other spacefaring race in the ALIEN universe and they evolved obviously long before humanity if this race had wiped out the Yautja homeworld it would explain alot.Why they wander the galaxy in clans,staking out hunting rights on backwater planets and their ritual right of passage to become a true hunter and member of their clan they must survive an Alien hunt and be "Blooded" by the acid of their trophy earning the mark of their clan and a place as an honored hunter in Yautja society.They consider the Aliens to be the most dangerous prey in the galaxy and it is a symbolic victory to defeat an opponent that once had almost wiped them out.Another movie I consider to be Cannon is the original Species film not only because of Giger's designs but the fact that the "monster" is clearly an Alien/Human hybrid and the mysterious signal from space could have been a preliminary attempt to destroy humanity before the Jockey race had to revert to direct intervntion(or a sly attempt by the yautja to create a new form of prey ). The Alien DNA in the Prometheus clips seems very similar to what they cooked up in the lab in Species and the crew of Prometheus that are infected seem to be going thru some hybridization process.I guess we'll all know in five weeks when the movie opens,I'm just glad they finally made a film that expands the Alien/Predator universe in a fresh direction.If you have read Chariots of the gods you must ask yourself is truth really stranger than fiction?
