Prayer for the Unemployed
Dear Father in Heaven,
Equal opportunist for all men and women,
Protector of minimum wage,
Hear thee Lord, Oh, Holiest sage,
Let there be work,
But with perks.
Dear Angel of Mercy,
Tell thee the recession is not here to stay,
Giver or unemployment benefits and taker away,
Thou hast used all thy extended benefits.
Won’t ye give thee a job
Before thou goes out to stealth and rob?
Dear God of Unions,
‘Tis sad the doom thou am in.
Defender of workingmen’s compensation,
Punch thee a card,
But give thee a job
Not too hard.
Dear Ruler of Factories,
Bring back the economy for thee.
Lest ye forget,
Don’t go just yet,
Until you find thee work,
To fill thy purse.
Dear Saint of Overtime,
Purveyor of double-time,
It isn’t fair,
Thy bank acccount is bare.
Inventor of Job Fair,
Where is thy career?
Dear Mother of White Collar Workers,
Timberland shoes and Dockers,
Overseer of Gold cards,
BMW’s and cellular phones,
Please don’t leave me alone.
But give thee employment if ye could.
Oh, Holy Father of the Unemployed,
Thou would really be overjoyed,
To be employed,
Or win the lottery,
And give thee a vacation,
To repent thy sins and change thy mood.
Oh, sick Satan,
Thou are tired of waitin’
Can ye put thee on the dole,
If thou promises ye thy soul?
But, it has to be a good position,
For thee to make that decision.
Here I wait for my phone to ring,
Hoping the morning mail will bring,
An answer to my resumes and cover letters,
And end my job search endeavors, forever.
Memphis Press classified ads;
Here I sit very sad.
It could be worse,
I could be working,
Rush hour and daily grind,
Always working forever behind.
Dear Father of Employed,
Allow me to stay unemployed.
