in the clutches of darkness
i see no shining light
through the trials of my life
i try to avoid the edge of a knife
in the grasp of darkness
i still try to do right
i know i sometimes fail
but my hope will not derail
in the clutches of darkness
i still fight with all my might
people do not believe in me
the do not see what i see
in the grasp of darkness
they would have me give up the fight
i will not give in
to do so would be a sin
in the clutches of darkness
i am the shining light
