We suage one another's emptiness
I catch her gazing as I look away
I affix myself against her mind
succulent bits and facts - we banter
all the while I bid for adoration
knowing full well we're just placeholders
It's not my place to hold her
and there's a man in wait who'll cherish
the chance and when in my place hold her
She's the only one I do embrace
and walk side by side in pride
knowing for now I'm her placeholder
