IS THIS A FOOL?
“Moron”, “Simpleton”, “Imbecile”
and other names we all well know,
in Websters’ Book I read, but still,
my mind decries that these words show,
or picture clear, who earnest row
Life’s white capped sea yet find life cruel,
because with love they overflow.
Could I be wrong, is this a Fool?
I speak of one who has the will,
and early gives his Love to slow
the tears of those who ‘round him mill,
uncertain, sad from grief and woe;
the ones who dream and fond hopes sow,
despite abuse and ridicule,
while selfish persons richer grow.
Could I be wrong, is this a Fool?
What of the one who seeks to thrill,
who daily yearns to give although
in giving sometimes finds Life chill,
when trusted loves his faith forego;
the one who ever seems to glow,
whose Love shall never cease or cool,
who happy lives and has no foe?
Could I be wrong, is this a Fool?
Envoy
From Selfishness our sorrows flow,
when Greed and Hate unkindly rule;
the Loving one gives Joy, but Oh,
could I be wrong, is this a Fool?
