It only takes a glance at the colorfully-animated (but oh so devious) clown handing an ice cream cone to a little girl on the cover of Here You Go Little Girl... to realize that the Odd Numbers are, well, some odd numbers. The CD gets off to a strong start with The Funk, a tune reminiscent of Public Enemy set to some 70s funk music. Later, the CD takes on a rock feel with Under My Skin, an interesting story about a cast of characters who annoy the band for various reasons. After delving into rock, the CD makes the transition to a more urban sound on Same Old Shit, the groups expression of the common hip-hop theme of trying to cope in a maddening society. Perhaps the best example of the groups abundant talent is Skin and Bones, a sad tale of Bobby Skin and Bones, a drug-addicted alcoholic struggling to survive. This track hooks you from the beginning with the opening line, It all began with the connection of eggs and semen / When Bobbys whore of a mother spread her legs with a demon.
In many ways, it is difficult to get a grip on Here You Go Little Girl.... The movement from silliness to seriousness, to different styles, is somewhat maddening. At the same time, it illustrates the groups talent, breadth of skill and willingness to take risks. It will be interesting to see how the public responds. (In Debt Records)
