lacus1023's blog: "The Start"

created on 06/05/2008  |  http://fubar.com/the-start/b221206
I remember when I was a little girl I used to write almost everything down. I didn't have a lot of friends and I think it was simply because I am very picky about what I consider to be a friend. I have high standards in what I expect from life and I don't see that as a big problem, but I am not talking lots of money and being famous, I am talking about being happy. Which I am convinced fame and fortune are not the way to that. When I am in a relationship I have what I call high expectations, which simply means my partners is my everything and I am theres. My girlfriends tell me that life isn't like that and that no matter how long I look, with that kind of thinking I will never be happy. Yet I have a guy friend who made a very good point, he said, why settle? And it truly made me think how many people I know that choose to settle... There was a guy the I worked with that was in his fifties who had a little boy with his wife the boy was about eight or nine, the wife and the man never spoke unless it was about their son, He confessed he was lonely and that they just stopped talking, and that he cared for her but wasn't in love anymore and the only reason they were together was for the son. And I was really shocked by this, because this is just one of many stories I had heard. Do so many adults with children in unhappy relationships really think that this is the best way to handle this situation, lying to their children and pretending that that is a normal functional family. Some people so greatly believe this, but I do not I have the proof it is not the best way. The truth is it hits the children like a ton of bricks and they either suppress it or act out, either way they end up resenting the parents and being pulled into games by them, it was your fathers fault, or your mother cheated on me. I remember my senior year in high school I had a friend who believe his parents were deeply in love, the day he graduated his dad moved out and his mom then explained to him that everything he had ever know about his parents relationship since he was ten was a lie. Imagine how that would affect you, I don't have to because I saw what it did to him, he got caught between is my dad a bad man for hurting my mom, and his mother and her constant down talking of his father. My friend didn't smile anymore in fact because very distance and very short with all his friends he stopped going out and stayed in and stopping caring about his future, he lived in his moms house playing video games... I went to visit him years later and he was exactly the same. Where in any of that did anyone win!!!?
