When he was young he made a promise
you could say that he sold his soul,
he did it for the woman he thought he loved
a big home and his wealth all told.
When he vowed that he'd give up his life
to be the possessor of all of those things,
he couldn't see or didn't recognize
the destroyer standing by in the wings.
So the Devil, he granted his every wish
there was nothing the man went without,
he was hell bent on his self destruction
and he would do it and there was no doubt.
At the peek of his life all things seemed to change
when at last he saw another point of view,
what was the point of all of this stuff
you could never take any of it with you.
His thoughts turned in other directions
and he wondered about the point of it all,
but before he could do any changing in life
the Devil stopped to pay him a call.
"You don't know me but I am the buyer
of that pathetic thing that you call a soul,
and now I have come to collect it
and I want it before it gets old."
He never had a chance to look further
he was gone like the flick of a switch,
don't deal with the devil for he'll come back to call
and remember that 'Payback's a Bitch'.
