Overgrowth

Overgrowth Stashes, mum's and blog's (oh my)! My how the little seedling of "Lost Cherry" has really grown. Being here since January I've witnessed a tremendous amount of growth and development. I was the 7050th person to join this upstart little community. I remember being welcome with open arms and feeling good about clicking on a little link I bumped into on the "HOT or NOT" site. I was impressed with the different look and the seemingly cutting edge it had over "My Space". The allotted photos of bigger proportions, the freedom of space and allowing HTML and images on the profile. Shoot, before I had 3 photo's uploaded and one profile section finished - I had about 20 "Friend's Request"! I was impressed, so impressed that: If "Lost Cherry" wouldn't of changed a thing - it still would of been SO much better than any site I'd frequented (OkCupid was my community of choice back in those days) Innovation was put to use. Shortly I noticed a new thing called "The Shout Box" ... An IM of sorts that I've never been able to master. I pretty much use it as a "One Time" short message delivery (because if I get it to work once, it probably will stop working shortly after) I wont go too deep into my feelings about that BOX. (see: "SHOUT IT OUT" blog for more on this) "Cherry Blast" came shortly after, I like those and it gave the community a way to give back to Baby Jesus and the "Lost Cherry" site. Around the time we hit 50,000 members is when I remember the new rankings. (Level 10 'Friend of Lost Cherry' used to be the TOP level) I enjoyed the "GIFTS" that were added around this time as well. A nice gesture -but- when they added "Cherry Spotlight" the gift giving wasn't as common ... people wanted to save the all precious points to purchase a 'spotlight'! At 100K I seen a spike in not only number of new members --but-- the amount of childish behavior, back stabbing and drama. That and the fact that a blitz for even more members promised 500 cherry points for referrals. Which in my option, started more drama because they didn't implement ISP or activation process to assure no fake accounts. This is when I personally gave up ... You either had to cheat -or- had to WORK very hard to keep your levels moving. I come here to relax and enjoy myself. I don't want to take all my free time to promote and whore myself just for some new level. I allowed my standings to slip without any begging ... I fell hard from around the top 100 to 999 it doesn't show any lower that I know of?? (see: POPULAR blog for related story) And you know what? I do enjoy this site, I can log on (computer willing) and just enjoy all the new things that that site has to offer (see first sentence). I don't mind if my friends here are into the leveling game, I'm friends with a few of the "TOP" folks ... I'll happily add to the all precious point totals (when & if I get a direct link to their newly added items) to give a TEN. (see: "FRUSTRATIONS OF TRYING TO BLOG" for related story) The "Overgrowth" I referred to? It's not "Lost Cherry" that makes one feel crowded or unwanted. It's (Lost Cherry's) growth is a good thing. I see that with its new items added to the site and new people joining everyday, as a positive growth. Eventually people will pay less attention to the foot race to the top and all the points and work involved. I see people branching off on new interest like blogging or one of the many things to "stash." All the new things to do is a prefect distraction from focusing on just one goal. I never felt the reason this site was started was to have a race turn into a war for points. It was to give people a "nightclub" to go to and hangout. What people do at a nightclub varies to different groups. Yes, there are many people who want to be noticed, others will table jump and meet new people. There are those who like to be in a 'cliq' and never venture outside their comfort zone. You have the movers and shakers, the quiet ones ... the ones who have waited to "bust" onto the scene. It is a lot of different people having a good time at what they do (different yes) but it is in the same place too. It's a night club, what club have you ever been into that every one dances to the same beat? Closing I'd just like to say the this "CLUB" is offering many alternatives and ways to enjoy it. I'm into the "BLOG" myself ... I'll like you even if you are not. I'm just saying not everyone can be a "TOP TEN". If that's your thing, that's fine - IF NOT ... There's a whole lot of shaking going on elsewhere here at the ole "LC" CLICK HERE IF YOU WANT TO VOTE ON A MUM ON THIS SUBJECT!
