Where would I be without you dad? My hero of night and day I'm so glad you love my mother, And take time for us each day. The last time we played baseball, You reached for me with your hand. I looked at you, then made a wish, That I might be just half the man. I love my father of this earth, And I love my father of heaven. It's a lot for me to love, you know, For I'm only eleven. As I sit here in the early morning dew I cannot stop thinking of you All I have of you is a picture of you I dream of being with you some how. Morning turns today and still I miss you I want so much to be able to snuggle with you But I don't know you just by writing The afternoon heat consumes me Still all I think about is being with you when I get home. Day turns to evening and the cool air blows I hope and pray that you know Even though I don't know you that good I am still thinking of my sweet new pen pal friend I just want to tell you that soon I will be home to stay. Darkness falls and I lay down to sleep I want so much to talk to you that I weep As I look to the sky and see the smiling moon I wonder if you looking too and hope to see me soon. In my dreams I see tears in your eyes I wish I could hold you and tell you not to cry My little pen pal friend everything will be just fine Your solider will be home on time to make you all mine.

You BOYS sure like to talk that trash When these MEN ain't around You'll be throwin' your fits While these MEN throw it down. You BOYS never appreciate their efforts And take for granted all the work that they do. That freedom of speech you love so much? They fight everyday to protect that for you. You BOYS jump at every chance to disrespect them by day But by night when you're at home sleeping sound Those same MEN are still fighting and dying for YOUR freedom, So you can keep putting them down. You BOYS won't ever truly appreciate Just exactly what it takes to be who they are Until they finally say, "I quit," and split Leaving YOU behind to fight this war. But before you start all that whinin' and cryin' Remember they are more than just merely men, They are the crème of the crop, the best of the best And with or without support vow "Semper Fi" 'til the end. So all the BOYS can continue to talk their talk, Because the talk is all they have and will ever be. They will never understand what means to be free. They will never know true honor, courage, or loyalty To all the MEN, you deserve our deepest thanks. Standing here looking at this stone, you're someone I've never known. but I can feel your spirit, your voice I can almost hear it. Eyes looking back at me are stoic, your expression is so heroic. Your life you courageously gave, for the home of the brave. America you proudly defended, and you will always be commended. America will always be proud of you, you're the proud, the brave, and the few. You sacrificed your life for those, who turned their back to oppose. Freedom will always be worth, the the reason you left this earth. Heroes don't come back from war, over America their spirits soar. Thank you soldier for being brave, sacrificing your life for mine to save.

The Soldier I’ve fought up on high mountains, on dry deserts and on plains. I’ve fought in dazzling sunshine, and in snowfalls and in rains. I’ve fought my way through hedgerows, and on dozens of distant beaches. I’ve fought in dark infested swamps, with their gators, snakes and leeches. I’ve fought in ice cold foxholes, when feet were frozen numb. I’ve fought in stifling jungle heat, and rice patty’s stinking scum. I’ve fought down in dark tunnels, and in fields laden with flowers. I’ve been badly wounded in battle, and lay there alone for hours. I’ve fought with blind and total fury, and with gut wrenching fears. I’ve knelt beside downed comrades, and I could not hide my tears. I’ve fought with muskets and with lasers, with my helmet and my fists. I’ve fought hand to hand many times, those my bullets may have missed. I’ve fought from behind stone walls, from trenches and from tanks. I’ve paraded in splendid court yards, as people gave their thanks. I’ve fought valiantly with honor, in every fight that I was in. I’ve asked only for recognition, for wars they would not let me win. My name is there on Bunker Hill, and on the Big Black Wall. I am your American soldier, and I still am standing tall. P.N.

"HOORAH!!" You stay up for 16 hours He stays up for days on end. _________________________ You take a warm shower to help you wake up. He goes days or weeks without running water. __________________________ You complain of a "headache", and call in sick. He gets shot at as others are hit, and keeps moving forward. __________________________ You put on your anti war/don't support the troops shirt, and go meet up with your friends. He still fights for your right to wear that shirt. __________________________ You make sure you're cell phone is in your pocket. He clutches the cross hanging on his chain next to his dog tags. __________________________ You talk trash about your "buddies" that aren't with you. He knows he may not see some of his buddies again. __________________________ You walk down the beach, staring at all the pretty girls or hot guys. He patrols the streets, searching for insurgents and terrorists. _________________________ You complain about how hot it is. He wears his heavy gear, not daring to take off his helmet to wipe his brow. __________________________ You go out to lunch, and complain because the restaurant got your order wrong. He doesn't get to eat today. __________________________ You don't appreciate the luxury of a washing machine and dryer. He wears the same things for weeks, but makes sure his weapons are clean. __________________________ You go to the mall and get your hair redone. He doesn't have time to brush his teeth today. __________________________ You're angry because your class ran 5 minutes over. He's told he will be held over an extra 2 months. __________________________ You call your girlfriend and set a date for tonight. He waits for the mail to see if there is a letter from home. __________________________ You hug and kiss your girlfriend/boyfriend/spouse/children, like you do everyday. He holds his letter close and smells his love's perfume. __________________________ You roll your eyes as a baby cries. He gets a letter with pictures of his new child, and wonders if they'll ever meet __________________________ You criticize your government, and say that war never solves anything. He sees the innocent tortured and killed by their own people and remembers why he is fighting. __________________________ You hear the jokes about the war, and make fun of men like him. He hears the gunfire, bombs and screams of the wounded. __________________________ You see only what the media wants you to see. He sees the broken bodies lying around him. __________________________ You are asked to do something by your boss/parents and sometimes you don't. He does exactly what he is told. __________________________ You stay at home and watch TV. He takes whatever time he is given to call, write home, sleep, and eat. __________________________ You crawl into your soft bed, with down pillows, and get comfortable. He tries to sleep but gets woken by mortars and helicopters all night long. __________________________ You sit there and judge him, saying the world is probably a worse place because of men like him.
