We sent them to a far distant land
To defend the freedoms we all share
Each said good-bye with honor and pride
Peril they entered, each was aware
The sand whipped around as they waited
For orders they knew would soon come
Sending them forward into battle
The ultimate price would be paid by some
Bullets would be flying all around
Heavy rounds filling the air overhead
When the dust once settles upon the ground
Brave heroes will be found laying dead
The blood stained ground where they lay
The soil letting it slowly seep in
Knowing that if they could now speak
They would all do it once again
They would stand in honor of their country
They would protect all that others to us gave
Standing with others in unity this day
Wounded in battle the medics try to save
Family and friends back at home are waiting
Praying for return of loved one’s one day
Unknowing their fate as in war they fight
Sorrow will fill their hearts each day
This day word has come to another
Their soldier, the ultimate price has paid
Found after a gruesome battle was fought
In God’s arms a heroes soul is now laid
Now to each that will come back home
In a flag covered coffin of this land
A heroes place you will always hold
In our hearts you will proudly stand
Laid to rest in the soil of this nation
After answering it’s battle call
Knowing the price they pay for us
With pain we watch our heroes fall
