I'll 'fess up-I'm rather oblivious to the signals of romantic/sexual interest. I suppose that, in part, it's due to the fact that I don't reciprocate the interest, as I fancy my dudefeller something fierce... :-p I As such, I've often found myself in an awkward situation with a member of the opposite gender. In any event, in the field in which I am currently employed, I am in constant contact with several gentlemen officers and the like. Some of the men are so flirtatious that even I,/i> have noticed, but some of them seem like genuine guys with good natures about 'em. My darling believes that some of the guys go entirely too far, but most of it seems completely platonic. As an example, one of my officers gave me some chocolate-covered strawberries today because he had several extra and I thought my darling's eyeballs were going to roll out of his head. He tends to get annoyed if one of the guys rubs my shoulders, even for a moment or so after a tense situation/dispatch.
He's particularly annoyed when I mention two specific officers, but I work with these two a great deal. Many of my work-related stories involve these two. He believes that I encourage flirtatious activity because I'll touch their arm or something if I'm making a point or need their attention and we all tend to joke around in the office. Therein we have the crux of the matter. I don't view touching someone's arm as a sexual move, but apparently, many guys do, as my darling had several men "verify/expound upon" his position.
Do you easily pick up on flirtatious behavior? What makes something flirtatious? Does touching someone's arm count as flirting? Did I make a poor decision by accepting the strawberries today? Obviously, these answers are going to vary, as people have different perceptions, but I'd like to see the general consensus. Thank you all for your time and consideration!
