Don't Ask Don't Tell

I know I might start venting and get a little off subject but i think its all relative, so here goes.

Ok don't ask don't tell. To me that phrase means if you don't ask I don't have to tell. That's all fine to me but i suppose it means different to politicians and other people.

On the news they talked about gay marches going on and Obama going on to say he would get rid of don't ask, don't tell allowing gays to serve openly. Im all for it. Let the gays serve their country they are human beings too plus they could do the same job as any straight person since they would have the same training. Im pretty sure with that out of the way reruitment #s will increase, we'll have more soldiers, decrease (hopefully) any chance of ever having to do a draft and unemployment would definately go down, in my opinion. If it happens then more power  to the people who actually get to choose to be in the military. If not, well there's not much I can say.

Maybe its just me but if that happens well, great. what about women who want to server and can't because they are either single/married/divorced/widowed with children? They are disqualified because of a child and the government won't accept them even if they have family who would and could watch the children during training and tours of duty, which I find is BS.

If any change came out to where women with children could join it wouldnt happen in this decade and I would be one of those people to write someone and say "well don't u feel stupid now? Everyone who wanted to join back then cant now because they are "too old" to join?" I think these women should be able to join and again back to the unemployment deal, what do u know it might go down more. Also gives these women the opportunity to go back to school to further education so that when they left the military, they have a fighting chance to get a job that pays decently well. Now a days it seems that almost all jobs are starting to require some sort of degree even if u have the experience in that field. With jobs going that route, there will always be people on welfare.

Troops

These are my thoughts on what I heard on the troop portion of what David Lettermen and Pres. Obama covered. Feel free to correct me or leave comments.

So I was watching the David Letterman show with President Obama. From what I hear is that plans are to have troops out of Iraq by the end of 2011. While thats all good, whats not to say they are going to extend that time again? First I had heard they wanted to bring these guys home sometime in 2010 and then "oh no not til 2011".

Now ok sure we got rid of Saddam and things are still a little shaky there in Iraq. But as they have already had their own 1st election isnt that a good sign that they are finally coming together to create a different government away from dictatorship? Haven't our troops helped the Iraqi police train enough or even helped out with methods of subduing violent acts of terror?(Feel free to correct me if I have something wrong.)

As far as Afghanistan Obama states that his goal is to take out the goup of extremists that are hidden in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Yet among all the BS somewhere along the way he decided it was a good idea to keep sending to Iraq instead of Afghanistan to try to get that done.  Im not sure I understand that move.  Now he says that among the 7-8yrs that our troops have been there that whatever strategy was in place went a drift and there was no sense of what was to be accomplished. Honestly, I never truly knew why we entered Afghanistan when we did so I agree on the point. On this issue it seems to me that regardless of the "good arguments" to pull out of Afghanistan or "good argument" to deploy more to Afghanistan, it just not really a choice  to pull out. It seems to me that it has been decided they will deploy more .

He also stated that they would not make any decisions to deploy any more troops without out asking what their purpose there would be, is it a justifiable move and what the strategy is. Umm, as good of an idea that is I just don't think I can believe that about troop deployments. I can see them deploying for at least the next 3 yrs.

While alot of this blows my mind, Im amazed at all things I didn't know. I may not know alot about politics but when I hear about anything about the troops, I will try to keep up on because they are my friends, my family and have families of their own they protect and who miss them.
