Judy's blog: "NEWS!!!!"

created on 11/29/2006  |  http://fubar.com/news/b29436

well guys & girls....lil' Alex is holdin' up pretty good so far. The doctors removed the tube from his left lung, but he still has two in his right lung and the one in his head drainin' all that fluid and they changed respirators...his blood pressure flutuates alot from what I'm told, but they are constantly monitorin' him and givin' him the meds he needs. I still haven't gotten to see my grandson, but maybe soon, my daughter will feel comfortable enough with all that's happened & she'll give in. Right now, she's still havin' a hard time copin' with the early delivery & all the complications that came along with it. So yeah, your prayers are still needed, as lil' Alex isn't outta the woods completely yet, much luvvvvvv......KK...

FETAL HYDROPS DIAGNOSED...

On Tuesday, July 24th, 07....my daughter, who was only seven months pregnant, went into preterm labor. They were able to stop the contractions but said they didn't have the equipment to handle premature births under 36 weeks, so she was taken by ambulance to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. After she arrived there, she was given numerous tests and the like only to be told the baby was diagnosed with fetal hydrops, which according to the doctors is almost always fatal to the infant. He was only given a 25% chance that he'd live. To my understanding, he has fluid buildup in and around every vital organ in his tiny body including under the skin.. On Friday, July 27th, 2007 @ 10:59am....she gave birth to her son, ALEX....who weighed 4 lbs. 10 oz....the first minute of his life, they had to perform immediate cpr on him because they couldn't hear a heart beat, but they said that could've been because of the fluid buildup...he was taken straight away to the neonatal icu.....last I heard, he had tubes going into his chest to both lungs to drain the fluid and an iv going into his umbilical cord....many tests have been done on lil' Alex, but we haven't heard anything back yet and I haven't heard anything myself since leaving the hospital after spending a few hours with my daughter late Friday night. She did get to see him that night, but didn't get to hold him...(I didn't get to see him)....so I guess no news is good news, right? or I can at least hope & pray that it is... All I ask is that you pray for my grandbaby and for my daughter, she really needs it now. This is so hard for her to deal with and she had said to me that she didn't know how she was going to cope if she didn't get to bring her baby home with her.....Of course I was at home two hours away on the phone to her and all I could do was cry, I wanted to hug her so tightly. It's hard on me also, as we've never had this kind of thing happen in our family, ever! I'll keep posting here about this, but if he passses away, I'm going to put a memorial here on my page to him and there'll be no more updates. Thank you for the prayers in advance...

WOLF MYTHS BUSTED!!!!!!!!!!

As the federal government prepares to release its harmful plan to remove protections for wolves in the Northern Rockies, some anti-wolf zealots are chomping at the bit to spread misinformation about these misunderstood animals. I'm sending this message to debunk some of those myths and set the record straight.
Wolves: Myth vs. Reality
MYTH [1]: Wolves are "vicious killing machines" with no purpose. FACT: Like any top predator, wolves play an enormously important role in their ecosystems. MYTH [2]: Wolves are very dangerous and commonly attack people. FACT: Wolf attacks are among the rarest of all large mammal attacks on humans. In fact, a person in wolf country has a greater chance of being hit by lightning, dying of a bee sting, or being killed in a collision with a deer than being injured by a wolf. MYTH [3]: Wolves devastate elk herds, leaving hunters with fewer elk to kill FACT: Elk and deer populations have not been wiped out by wolves. For example, in Idaho, data show that in 2005 (the most recent year we have stats for) hunter harvest numbers were higher than in some years before the wolf even arrived in the state. MYTH [4]: Ranchers are not reimbursed for their losses to wolves. FACT: Most livestock owners who can prove that wolves caused the loss of their stock seek and receive compensation for their losses. MYTH [5]: Wolves are causing serious economic harm to local communities. FACT: Wolves in Yellowstone have attracted more than $35 million annually to local economies. SOURCE: Defenders of Wildlife.....a national, nonprofit membership organization dedicated to the protection of all native wild animals and plants in their natural communities.

The Wolf's Future????

Wolves are wild animals, meant to live out their lives in freedom. When human beings interfere in the lives of wild animals, it becomes their responsibility to provide what the animals cannot provide for themselves - a healthy environment in which to live. We must also reach a balance with those who want to see the wolf controlled, their concerns must not be dismissed, they must become part of the conservation debate. For some wolves live in the imagination as shadows of evil, fueled by fallacy and fiction. Will they forever remain a thing of darkness or will the wolf emerge in the light of understanding? Is the cry of the wolf a mournful farewell or does it announce his return? Will we grant him a place to live? and in turn give ourselves something more valuable? We all must work together to ensure that the songs of the wolves will always be heard in all the wild places of our earth. The wolf has been part of the natural balance for thousands of years, in less than 100 years man through ignorance and misinformation has almost made wolves disappear forever. It will continue unless we speak up for those who can't speak for themselves... See my blog under NEWS...."Please Help The Wolves"...together we can make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

With the growing human population the wolf is coming into conflict with people in areas where they have not been seen before. Wolves need lots of land, away from humans, to live and raise their families. As our population has grown, the amount of wilderness where wolves can live has gotten smaller. The wolf has been exterminated in most of Europe in the past four centuries. Pockets of wolves survive in mountainous Spain, France, Italy, and forested Finland. The wolf population of Asia has been equally decimated, although substantial numbers remain in remote corners of the Middle East and on the Russian and Mongolian steppes. A wolf is neither good nor evil, it seems Myth still out lives the it, but now many understand their nature. And now many Ranchers and others are now seeing through a real understanding of the wolf and through some preventive measures on their part (Checking herd regularly, removing carrion, having guard dogs, etc.), Both the wolf and man can live together. There are extremist on both sides of the wolf debate. Most ranchers don't hate wolves, but sometimes they kill their livestock, some on the other side think that wolves should never be killed for any reason, no one wants to see a wolf killed, but when man and wolf come into conflict usually the wolf will loose. It is then better for a few wolves to be put down than have a back-lash against wolves and see unrestricted hunting legalized, a compromise must be reached to save the wolf as a whole, it is unfortunate that the wolf through no fault of its own has come into conflict with us, but the reality is that with the ever shrinking wilderness that if there is no compromise the wolf may once again be on the brink of extinction. To help protect the wolf, we will need to help protect the wilderness that is left. Today we understand the science of the wolf, but the soul is lost. This once crafty hunter revered and respected is now seen as vermin and a danger to livestock. Keep reading...next blog...
