Dear Family, Fans and Friends Michele and the Midnight Blues will not perform live again until this years National Women in Blues Festival the 1st weekend of November here in Wilmington NC. Most of you know that I am the events producer and I am up to my eye balls in details. I hope some of you can make it. All the information is below in the press release. The line up is going to be incredible with headliners like EG Kight and the Deanna Bogart Band...I just hope I can catch up on sleep in time! Celebrate the Arts presents, the 2nd National Women in Blues Festival in Wilmington, November 2nd & 3rd on the lower level of the Water Street Parking Deck. The Festival not only brings in women blues artists from all over the country, its ticket profits benefit many women’s charities including; Domestic Violence, Rape Crisis, CARE of UNCW, and the Full Belly Project. This year’s headliners are well-known to blue’s lovers worldwide. Friday night, November 2nd sees none other than the Georgia Songbird and 6 time Blues Music Award nominee, EG Kight. After hearing KoKo Taylor’s voice some years back EG’s music took a dramatic turn towards the blues. Her music now crosses many borders that tastefully incorporate jazz, country, southern rock, gospel and funk but according to Kight, the blues has become the backbone of her music for the last seven years. Her music has been on the Billboard charts and she has shared the stage with notables like; Taj Mahal, Delbert McClinton, Phoebe Snow, Little Feat, Merle Haggard and Garrison Keillor during the past year. Saturday night, November 3rd headliner is Deanna Bogart, who will be coming fresh off the Legendary Rhythm & Blues Revue where she has been sharing the stage with Tommy Castro Band, Ronnie Baker Brooks, and Magic Dick. Deanna also was nominated as Best Instrumentalist for the 2007 Blues Music Awards. She will be appearing at the National Women in Blues Festival with The Deanna Bogart Band. Down Beat magazine describes Deanna Bogart as "an extravagant entertainer"-- and entertain is what Bogart does best. The Maryland-based blues and boogie pianist / saxophonist combines the energy of 1930's style boogie piano blues with contemporary blues sounds emanating from places like New Orleans, Chicago and Memphis. Blues women from around the country will appear on this Festival’s stage, including artists from the West Coast like Lara Price and Laura Chavez, Suzanne & the Blues Church and the Queen of Steam, Michele Lundeen. New York hails solo artist Sarah Lemieux. Back from Arkansas, Big Red & the Soul Benders. Southeast artists include; Robin Rogers (NC, & finalist in the 2004 International Blues Challenge), Patty Benson (NC), The Grit Pixies (NC), Sandy Atkinson (Fla.), Michele and the Midnight Blues (NC) and the regions Grandmother of Blues, Rose Lucas. Hailing from Chicago is Juke Joint Judy. A surprise this year is an international artist, Sophie Kay from France.
