Invisible, she knew
watching them walk by
no one ever saw her, she was on her own
why had become her chant
as she cried herself to sleep night after night
Day after day she stood there watching
desperately for any sign
that she lived and breathed among them
that it was not just
some hellish nightmare
from which she couldn’t escape,
but no, it was her ghoulish reality of an existence
as the world went on around her
Shunned by all,
she would watch as their eyes skipped
over her, as if she were never there
Alone, a sorrow filled word; frightened
her heart ached for companionship
for someone to call a friend.
