  Love unrequited,
 dreaming of better days
doesn't seem to matter
much anyways
  I thought you were an angel
sent to save me
from this hell that I created
here on my own.
  long hours thinking
shadows on the wall
the day disappears
and leaves me with nightfall
that's when it happens
in the long, strange hours of the night
I lie still thinking
listening to my heart beat
so loud so alone
a rhythm in my head
pounding and demanding
drums on a distant shore
where has it gone
the days we spent
lost but not forgotten
lost or stolen
  demons in my head
snakes in my bed
torn like so much paper
burning, burning, burning
it's gone
so far gone
too, too late
to do anything but cry
why did it end
before it began
distant memories
nothing left but tears and ashes
of my paper heart.
