For my grandfather

I 1st met my grandpa when i was in 2nd grade at least when i could 1st recall meeting him. He was a hard core drinker. Also had a world of knowledge to pass on to me. To me he was the toughest son of a bitch you could have ever met. Over the years i got to know him on a level even my mother didnt know him. we done alot together. While living in tucson as a kid we went to see old shot up cars out in the desert and different mountains. he was also the one to get me into putting model toys together. as time went on i moved back to jacksonville and i kept in contact with him. so lets fast forward some years. I decided to become a truck driver after my army career. When i started driving trucks i started to visit him on a regular basis. During this time i had found out that he had served in the navy as a frogmen. and served with UDT 3 which stands for underwater demolitions team. he started talking to me about some of his war stories that he was personally involved with during his career. it made me feel even closer to him because he would not talk to any one bout it not even his on kids like my mother. well as time went on and we stayed in contact he started to get sick with cancer. and the more i saw him the thinner he got. his tattoes became just blobs from his thinning out. he was a tough fucker to say the least but he knew his time was numbered. so he started confessing even more to me. well finally his battle with bone cancer came to an end on October 5th 2007. i was 1000 miles away in my truck on that day. i had to shut down my truck due to the pain i had felt from such a loss with him. to add insult to injury my piece of shit mother decided to email me about his death rather than call me. my dad was the one to call me the same day he died. But i will always remember my grandfather as some one who served his country with out any regret. The man was truely one who was 10ft tall and bullet proof in every sense of the word. the man had fought death all his life. He was not scared of it either he faced death as a war. fearless to his last breathe. He has been my roll model for a very long time and i will do my best to live up to his reputation as a man.
