Raymond R. “Ray” Hasara, 78, of 77 Roosevelt Drive, Morea, died Monday night at home following a lengthy illness.
Born in Mahanoy City, he was a son of the late John and Helen Quick Hasara, and stepson of the late Tillie Hasara. He was a 1945 graduate of Mahanoy City High School and an Army veteran.
He was employed for many years in the local mines and collieries and last worked for Myers Manufacturing, Hazleton.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion and VFW, all of Mahanoy City.
In addition to his parents and his stepmother, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and John.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, the former Anna Fritz; a son, Robert and his friend, Rita Bartashus, Morea; a daughter, Linda, wife of Dr. Robert Hall, Frackville; a brother, Joseph, Philadelphia; two grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Taschler and Jason Hymes; two great-grandchildren, Bryce and Gavin Taschler; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral at 11 a.m. Friday from David D. Jarrett Funeral Home, Second and Pine streets, Mahanoy City. The Rev. Drew A. Parsons will officiate. Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home. There will not be any calling hours on Thursday evening. Contributions in Ray’s name to First UM Church would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the funeral home. Condolences can be e-mailed to jarrettfuneralhome@verizon.net. Interment will be in Sky-View Memorial Park, Hometown.
