Happy Thanksgiving

I'm spending Thanksgiving away from home this year, with a handful of friends from Alaska and the Seattle area. It won't last long enough and I have to get up at 2:00 Am to catch my flight back to Alaska at 6:00 Am (I guess I should just forget about that until the time arrives). Happy Hollendaise, all (except you...yeah YOU! You, there with a chicken's leg in your mouth!)

Vacation Complete

It took approximately 7 hours to drive north from Anchorage to Fairbanks on the Parks Highway. I spent the night in Anchorage then proceeded 60 miles Northeast to Chena Hot Springs where I spent two days (I'm not really good about taking pictures; all the pictures are from this place). Total milage traveled was approximately 1120, 1090 of which had an average fuel consumption of 24.9 miles per gallon of gasoline. Average speed was 65 miles per hour. On the way back home I passed about a hundred motorcycles heading North to a big rally in Fairbanks this weekend.

Time for a Vacation

I haven't had a real vacation in a year and a half (a delightful weekend trip to Orlando after a week of 56 hours of overtime doesn't count--that's like, 1 day of hazy staggering around after flying nearly 5,000 miles). I have 4 weeks to use in the next 7 months, so I'll start with this week! I'm going to drive to Fairbanks (it's always much hotter there in the summer) and spend a night here http://www.akalpinelodge.com/ and then I'm going to drive another 60 miles from there to see a place I have never seen before http://chenahotsprings.com/ and then I'm returning home to do some housework and laze about and plan how I'll burn off the other three weeks. I can *highly* recommend both Canada and Alaska as nice places to visit in the summertime!
It's some of the mouldie oldie music that I like from the seventies, eighties and nineties. I'm sure it will annoy some people when they arrive and the random shuffling feature is on some noisy track (like Lizzy Borden just annoyed me, even if I do like it). I couldn't find a lot of things to put there, but I was surprised at some I did find. I have a huge CD collection at home and many of the albums are rare and not easily found. When I do find them they are invariably imports with high prices. I'm a big fan of Tony Carey, for example.
You Are A Rowan Tree
rowan-tree.jpg
You are full of charm and cheer. You light up a room.
And while you crave attention, you do it without ego.
You are an interesting mix of contradictions - and very unpredictable.
You are both dependent and independent, calm and restless.
You are passionate, emotional, gregarious, and (at times) unforgiving.
1130268264SPIDEY.jpg You scored as The Amazing Spider-Man. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, Peter Parker was transformed from a nerdy high school student into New York's greatest hero. Peter enjoys the thrill of being a super hero, but he struggles with the burdens of leading a double life. He hopes someday to win the heart of his true love Mary Jane, the woman he's loved since before he even liked girls. Right now, he just wants to make it through college and pay his bills.

I know diddly about HTML, CSS, ASP, PHP and all that stuff. Okay, well next to diddly. I managed to create a track though, after trying unsuccessfully for an hour. I put a version into MP3 and a version into SWF I don't know how these will work, but both are working for me (no surprise because I made them on this machine). I'd be interested in knowing if they cause any problems. Here is the SWF version: http://cherrytap.com/play_track.php?t=6328461
Whenever I get new software, or a new book that I'm really interested in (the last one I got was http://www.edwardtufte.com/tufte/books_be "Beautiful Evidence" by Edward Tufte), I start reading and in about one half hour I get really really tired and fall asleep. This seems to happen everytime. When I wake up I remember everything I read, and even if I misunderstood it, it's like it's locked in my mind forever--because if I DID misunderstand it, I have problems not remembering it incorrectly from that point on. The most recent software I bought was an upgrade from Photoshop 7.0 to Photoshop CS3 Extended. Everytime I start to experiment with the new stuff, I get really exhausted. I wonder if this happens to anyone else; is this phenomonon known or studied, I wonder.
