Here in the UK, State Schools all have a Board of Governors that the Head Teacher (or 'Principal' to my AMerican friends) is accountable to, basically a group of volunteers that run the school on behalf of the Local Education Authority.
Unsurprisingly, this being a time-consuming task with a fair amount of responsibility, finding willing volunteers isn't always easy. Our Local Authority is embarking on a publicity campaign to drum up new volunteers. Tomorrow there's an event taking place which I, as an example of a younger Governor have been invited to participate in.
So here's the thing. There may well be local media present - do you think I should dress smartly, to give an air of professionalism? Or wear my regular work clothes (jeans, shirt, sweater) to give the impression that, you know, it's something your average guy can get involved with? |
