Universal Pictures has set David Benioff (Troy, Wolverine) to write an untitled drama about the life of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. Studio has acquired rights to "Heavier Than Heaven," a Cobain biography written by Charles Cross. Cobain's widow, Courtney Love, will executive produce. The producers and studio would not address whether they had locked down music rights, or the nature of the story they are trying to tell. For "Heavier Than Heaven," Cross had access to Cobain's unpublished diaries as well as Cobain's friends and family members. Cobain formed Nirvana in 1987 with bassis Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl, the latter of whom now fronts the Foo Fighters. Led by Cobain's growling delivery, inventive guitar work and lyrics that appealed to a disaffected young generation, Nirvana ushered in the Seattle grunge music movement in the early '90s with hits like "Smells Like Teen Spirit." Cobain's life was marked by depression and drug use, and he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in 1994, leaving behind his wife and a daughter.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic Here are two clips from the upcoming "Saw 4" movie, which feature two of Jigsaw's traps. One reveals who is behind the pig mask that we have been seeing so much, while the other is a sick game of knives, where the object is to press on them with your face to escape. In the movie, two seasoned FBI profilers, Agent Strahm and Agent Perez, arrive to assist veteran Detective Hoffman in sifting through Jigsaw's latest grizzly remains and piecing together the puzzle. However, when SWAT Commander Rigg is abducted and thrust into a game, the last officer untouched by Jigsaw has but ninety minutes to overcome a series of demented traps and save an old friend or face the deadly consequences. As with previous installments, "Saw IV" will hit theaters around Halloween (October 26th).

Image and video hosting by TinyPic http://SeXiVixxEN.flixster.com After receiving an incredibly dark poster for the upcoming big screen adaptation of "Sweeney Todd," we now have the first still from the movie. It features Johnny Depp as Todd inside of a broken down house; his pants are dirty, his skin is pale and his hair is wild. Depp is joined by his co-star Helena Bonham Carter, who plays his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. The story of "Sweeney Todd" is of a wrongfully imprisoned barber in Victorian England who sets out to seek revenge on the judge who imprisoned him. The film is directed by Tim Burton, who is re-uniting with Depp for the sixth time. The first five films were "Ed Wood," "Edward Scissorhands," "Sleepy Hollow," and the recent "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Corpse Bride." "Sweeney Todd" hits theaters on December 21st.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic http://SeXiVixxEN.flixster.com Just days ago, Universal said that it will move ahead on the fourth installment of "The Fast and the Furious," in order to avoid the upcoming strikes. Now, without either a script or a director, Edmunds.com revealed that casting has begun. According to the automotive site, the next film will reunite many characters and actors from the first three including Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson and Lucas Black. Since there is no script, we cannot be sure what the plot will be about. But Edmunds wrote: "Obviously the story will once again center around automotive mayhem of the most intense sort, but the rumor is that this time most of the action will be set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil." As always, the kind of cars used are a big deal in these films, and you can look forward to seeing a 1970 Dodge Charge, the new Dodge Challenger, the Chevrolet Opala and maybe a 1987 Buick GNX for Vin Diesel's character.
Image and video hosting by TinyPic http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=6130&count=0 Back in May we received two character posters for "American Gangster," featuring one of Denzel Washington and the other of Russell Crowe. You know what would be a good idea... to put the two posters together. I guess Universal was thinking the same thing, as they now released just that. In the movie, Harlem drug lord Frank Lucas (Washington) smuggled heroin in the caskets of soldiers killed in Vietnam, until he was eventually caught by New York detective Richie Roberts (Crowe). Eventually, Roberts got Lucas to turn his talents toward catching the crooked cops and drug dealers who profited from his scheme. "American Gangster" has a great story, great actors and a bankable director (Ridley Scott), but for some reason, it also has lots of rappers like RZA, T.I. and Common, who will obviously play Lucas' thugs. Catch this film in theaters November 2nd. http://SeXiVixxEN.flixster.com

Brand New "Halo" Short

Image and video hosting by TinyPic For a movie that is currently not scheduled to be made, "Halo" is sure releasing lots of shorts. In this third one, we get to see lots more violence, lots more blood and more footage than before. Similar to the first two shorts released, it is once again directed by Neil Blomkamp, the same person that's currently in talks to helm the theatrical version. Studios have stayed clear of the "Halo" movie for many reasons; there is the fact that Microsoft doesn't want to give up too much and there is also the fact that Blomkamp only has a few commercials on his resume. Handing over the project to a newcomer, for which the budget could be hundreds of millions of dollars, would make anyone nervous. The new short is comprised of shaky footage and seems to resemble the actual game. The special effects are done by Peter Jackson's WETA Digital, the same company behind "Lord of the Rings," "I, Robot" and "King Kong." Image and video hosting by TinyPic http://SeXiVixxEN.flixster.com LA Times reports that Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay have signed on to make "Transformers 2," which is scheduled to hit theaters in the summer of 2009. This news seems to be the opposite of what Bay has announced several day earlier, when he mentioned aborting the sequel due to the upcoming strike. "I might jump ship and come back a year or so later cause people at the studio have been dragging for two months." At this point, "Transformers" has earned close to $700 million in worldwide ticket sales, and could add another $200 million when the film is released on DVD on October 16th. http://www.worstpreviews.com/headline.php?id=5916&count=0

Final "Saw IV" Poster

Image and video hosting by TinyPic
Without even knowing the details of the plot, we already have the fifth "Saw IV" poster, which according to director Darren Lynn Bousman, is filled with clues. It features a woman from the very first still released, only she is wearing a pig mask. As always, the tagline states "It's a trap." In addition, the film also received it's official MPAA rating. During Comic-Con, it was announced that the movie was rated 'NC-17' and would have to go through some major edits to get down to an 'R.' Apparently, those edits have been made, and the new rating is now "R for sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture throughout, and for language." "Saw IV" is scheduled to hit theaters on October 26th. Click here to read our exclusive "Saw IV" preview.

RottenTomatoes caught up with producer Don Murphy to talk about "Transformers 2" and its chances of getting made before the guild strikes start next year. "The facts are that everyone is saying there will be [a strike]," said Murphy. "Lots of ideas are being pitched around. I suspect there will be one but the strike thing kind of confuses everyone. When would we have to start? There's no script. How would we be done by end of June?" Even though Murphy and director Michael Bay are convinced that a sequel will happen, the problems is that it might not happen for a long time. "What we're expecting is that the Writer's Guild who's up in October will just magically elect to push until June which is when SAG is up," stated Murphy. "They'll all go on strike together. With no writers, you can't do any development."
