Nutty's blog: "Mind wanderings"

created on 08/02/2011  |  http://fubar.com/mind-wanderings/b342708

Life works in, sometimes, mysterious ways; or at least that is how it seems when we are in the middle of a certain situation and we cannot wrap ourselves around the scope of meaning and the influence (the result) that particular situation will have on our own personal development. We often times allow ourselves to remain stuck in that situation until the situation resolves itself or until circumstance forces us to resolve it.  As time passes we gain the ability to look back with a more objective, analytical view and recognize the changes we underwent in the process.

We gain a determination not to find ourselves in a similar situation again when it concernes a negative experience. Key in this however is how strong is this determination and are we able to implement this determination into our lives to prevent a repeat. How honest can we be with ourselves in scrutinizing our actions, or lack thereof, in the development of this situation. How far can we go in the dissecting and analyzing of the underlying motivations or emotions that caused these actions. And when the root of this is uncovered and recognized, how couragous and strong are we in forcing ourselves to face that which requires change to ensure a repeat is out of the question?

It is easy to look at another person and their actions, or listen to a brief description of someone's issue and, based on the limited knowledge that we have of them, tell them how to deal with the situation; give them advice on how to "fix" it. But when it comes to ourselves we seem to lack the ability to view our actions objectively and follow our own advice. Of course it is not as simple when it comes to ourselves since we are living that situation, we are the ones executing the actions or non actions based on our own personal emotions, our own personal history. There are too many aspects entwined with our personal make up that are the triggers for these actions; fear, anxiety, despair, anger, sadness, etc; to allow us an objective perspective of the situation as it unfolds.

Rationale hardly plays a part in this, even if we were to pride ourselves on the fact that our mind overrules our emotions, the enforcement of mind over emotion itself is triggered by an emotion.

How deep are you willing to delve to unveil the source, how far are you willing to go in the confrontation with self. Can you be honest enough with yourself to acknowledge your discovery, can you be courageous enough to confront yourself with a deep rooted emotion and change it? Do you possess the strength to change yourself and the brutal honesty toward yourself to acknowledge this?

Most of us lie to ourselves when we stumble upon something that is deeply seeded within us, we look toward others for the blame. "If he/she hadn't said or done that.. ". We find it easier to ignore our own flaws and look for them in others.

Can you honestly look at yourself in the mirror and be proud of who you are?
We all have virtues and vices, strengths and weaknesses, the key to personal happiness, in my opinion, lies in acceptance of every aspect of self. No one is perfect, the closest to perfection that we can ever get is by accepting who we are and be consciencely aware of our weaknesses and vices and accepting responsibility for them.

There is a balance in everything, including ourselves.
