Mabon is a time to give thanks and celebrate the bounty of the earth and the offerings that have been given. Much lore surrounds this holiday; a few are listed below.
Also known as the Pagan Thanksgiving, Mabon is a time to give thanks, when the holiday of Thanksgiving was originally celebrated. Lincoln changed the date during his presidency.
A time of equality, Mabon, or the autumn equinox, is a time when the Lord and the Lady are in absolute balance. They are no longer the Lady and her Consort.. rather equal in all aspects.
This is a time when the Lord is dying, and the Lady begins to rest for her Coming of Age as the Crone. The Lord has given almost all he can this harvest season, and will pass on at Samhain.
Mabon is the Second Harvest of the year. It is a time to enjoy the season's last fruits, veggies, and grains such as apples, corn, and wheat. Pumpkin pie is also known to run amok this season!
This holiday is commonly celebrated with a feast rather like those the Pilgrims and Native Americans experiences on the first. Turkey, cornish hen, pork, goose, duck, potatoes, and corn are popular choices. Also any sort of wheat-based breads and other foods. It is also a time when sunflower seeds are most commonly eaten.
This is the holiday when the Darkness conquers the Light. It does not mean that the Light is gone forever.. no.. it will be reborn come spring. This Dark of the Year is a good time to learn more about yourself and learn about herbs, plants, and spiritual quests. The weather is cool and it's a good time for hiking.
Though humans do not, some animals gorge themselves on foods at this time of the year. Those who don't, fly to warmer weather or grow thick winter coats to keep warm.
Mabon is also known as Autumnal Equinox, Alban Elved, Witches' Thanksgiving, Harvest Home, and the Wine Harvest.
