What makes for a Good Lounge? Who knows? Some Lounges that have been around for years are not popular (or they once were and everyone left) and some that are new are rocking with folks.
Why do some promoters just RUB ME THE WRONG WAY?!
sometimes I dont know why I get annoyed at some and others I jump for the lounge.
I am both so impressed with some and disgusted with others that I decided to start to review the lounge and give feedback. This will be mostly compliments to what I like and criticism for what I thought could have been done better.
I have done forum reviews before and I wish it could have really taken off, and I got flack and almost Kicked off a board for what I told them I was gonna say about them. They were quite pleased only a handfull of people read my blog there.
I am not that hard to please, I just believe things should work right, and be done properly.
1. Greeters are not called for nothing and they are very important.
I have been in lounges and said "HI to all" several times for 10 to 20 minutes and got no response from members or staff, and sometimes if everyone is just listening to music then thats ok if no one really wants to chat I can dig it, BUT HAVE SOMEONE GREET THEM!!!
I walk into another lounge and there are five people yakking away madly and I am totally
ignored. This can start to create an uncomfotable silence buffer that is reminiscent of "naughty chat,booph,adultchat and others in the past.
It also creates and even encourages lurkers which i guess can be ok here cause of the music.
2. Request Line? Do you take requests? is probably the most asked question around.
Ok first to cover the Yahoo mess, DJ's keep in mind when you give someone your yahoo address as in IAMAGREATDJ@YAHOO.COM AND YOUR NAME IS gEORgE JONES AFTER YOU ARE ADDED AND YOU ACCEPT YOUR NAME ADDY CHANGES AND THEN YOU GO INTO THE MIX OF THE HUNDREDS OF NAMES THE PERSON MAY HAVE ON THEIR MESSENGER.

I understand this is not always possible but this
is a growing trend I am noticing and only geeks like me can usually be there to help the rookies out. For both newcomes to Fubar and those that dont spend 100 hours a week on their pc's this can be VERY CONFUSING!
3.TEXT SIZE
OK This is a biggie for all Baby boomer types and
peeps like me that need glasses.
If I joined your lounge and I seem to like the music and I have never been back, one of things you may think about is trying to make the chat text line bigger than 8-10 font!
Ok so after I wrote this and I got to thinking (yes I know it's amazing but I can can think sometimes) about the DPI setting on my desktop so now those little itty bitty red text boxes are readable!
4.skins
I have Been at a WONDERFUL lounge with nothing but
the nicest people but I can not read half the time
cause of the skin! I scroll up and down but I cant get around that star!
Try to make your skin beautiful but readable, I have seen lounges with dark text on a dark background, you need contrast folks.
So I went to this Board and left a feedback and fubar support characterized my words as "spewed forth". So I guess I will be spewing alot!
5.Style and theme
This kinda starts to be up to your discretion however it would nice if the color scheme matched the type of music generally played at the lounge.
What is the Theme of the Lounge (is it Vamp or pink roses?) and if it is Vamp you cant be playing
Tiffany or brittiny and if it is red roses what are you doing playing metal?
Lots of grey area folks and I am sure no one is perfect but it's nice if there is a trend to the Site and I am sure most experienced builder know this.
6.keep listeners informed
Are you a Professional DJ? Maybe not but you can do your best to act like one. This also may be a matter of opinion, or the style of your board, or the type of music, or even the type of night, but I like a DJ that talks to us and lets us know what just played and what is coming up next etc. etc.
7.playlist sites for request line and a now playing link is the ultimate IMO.
there is one site or two that will just love this review because they are so well built.
one of these was created in Jan 2008 and as of feb 12 2008 they have 783 members!
