As per usual everyone I know called me on my only day off.
For several hours.
Cest la vie.
And just as a warm up
a refresher
to blow the dust off
I grabbed my first foil
yeah the one with the 99% covering of rust, and the MANGLED guard, the billions of micro metal splinters and ... the obnoxious pistol grip :/
I hate pistol grips. Picture this bizzare, cold, metal barbed crampy unpleasant
device -_-
I hate it.
You maneuver the blade, and about 4 different prongs fling into your squishy hand parts.
Wish I had a french grip. Its even got this super thin prong that digs into the pommel of my wrist.
I told my old instructor I didn't wanna use that crazy contraption, that I wanted a bigger guard, and that I wanted to switch to lefty seeing as how at the time I was planning a major surgery on the arm he required me to learn on.
... but other than that he was a brilliant instructor.
And he had me keep my stance too wide and my legs cramped out too much...
but he was a world class fencer, and a nice guy.
So in my jeans, t shirt, and chuck taylors, I practiced my old target routine, and... really didn't feel a particular drop off in my accuracy or speed. My footwork needed tightening
then I tried bending the blade for some flicks
and broke my $4000 flat screen.
...
HAH!
No.
I've lost nothing but stamina. My footwork was always needing more fine tuning. I -started- flicks about 2 weeks before I moved and I can get about a 30* horizontal bend with decent accuracy.
Even got in some lunge-disengage-flicks. Pretty cool shit.
...
I don't think I'm ready for the sunflower games or anything. But I've been thinking about making something official instead of just dabbling when I don't have a cold. Problam is-
when you put in "topeka fencing association" in a search engine you tend to get guys with posts and rolls of linked metal.
Now for gelato, and a trim of my beard.
