Isn’t life interesting…
Today my son, Chad, age 10 was playing football at school
During recess, flag football of course, (YEAH RIGHT)
Only to have a so called friend tackle him grab him by the shoulders
And slam him to the ground. Little did his friend know, that my son’s leg was now behind his own back.
Me being a single mother of two, work becomes a very important thing.
I am a substitute teacher, I have been for 3 years, I truly love what I do.
I have been with the school corporation for 10 years. I always shut my phone
Off in the morning before going into work. I worked at one school this morning and just
Arrived at another school to start my day in the afternoon. I was talking to the teacher I was
About to replace for the day, and all of the sudden, my cell starts ringing, puzzled by that, I’m like
Wow, that is weird, I had my phone shut off. I grab the phone to turn it off and see that
My son’s school is calling. I quickly answer, only to find the secretary on the other line telling me
That my son has been hurt. So the school has to call a substitute in for the sub, and I am on my way
To take my son to the E.R…something to ponder…I had my phone shut off, so how come it rang??
This is where life gets put into perspective…
We are sitting in the room waiting on the Doctor.
My son , who couldn’t feel his toes, says in a sheepish voice, “hey mom, is this going to cost us money?”
Tears streamed down my face, I said, honey, I don’t care about how much it is, that isn’t important, only thing that is important is that you feel better. We spent way over an hour in that small, closet size of a room. He calmed down a little and said, “Well Mom, at least I didn’t get dirty!” That made me laugh, cause being a Mom, who has a normal little boy, I am constantly harping about how dirty he gets playing at school. Sad though, that we live in a world where a child is more worried about the cost of something, or the burden it might cause me, than his own self.
If you are wondering what the outcome was for my child.
I still don’t know really, we have to wait for an appointment on Monday
To see a specialist and for the swelling to go down, I am up because he has a loft bed, and of course can’t climb the ladder to rest, so he is in my bed. Too worried I will bump his ankle by laying with him, I just can’t sleep…plus the little painful sighs I hear coming out of my son while he is sleeping, rips my heart
Out. Ugh….being a parent is very hard sometimes. ~Melody
