Lessons Learned So Far

Life can be so complicated sometimes, and we don't always make the best choices. All we can do is try our best. I'll be the first to admit.....it took me awhile to grow up. When I finally did, I began to realize some pretty important things. For instance, many times my mom was actually right about things......I can see that, now that I have kids of my own. Looking back, I see now that when I was in school my friends and I could be so cruel to other kids sometimes. At the time it seemed "cool" but now I realize that it was mean and hurtful.....a really horrible way to treat others.
Nobody is perfect......everyone has flaws......we may not be able to see them, but trust me....they're there. I've come to the conclusion that some people are just better at hiding them than others. It's taken me a long time to learn this, but I know now that beauty really does come from within. If you take the time to look at people.....I mean really look at them.....you'll find their true beauty.....inside and out.
I've learned that most of the songs that my kids consider "classic rock" can instantly transport me back to a specific time in my youth......I mean.....I can remember what I was doing....who I was with.....where we were.....every single detail about it.....just by hearing a certain song.
Staying up all night is not as easy as it used to be, and I now value sleep far more than I ever did. The energy that kids have should be bottled up, and used for all of us grownups.....because we're the ones who truly need it.
Some things never change, like the fact that ice cream tastes good at any time of the day, and cold pizza will never go out of style. Holidays are still exciting, and it's always fun to tear the wrapping off of presents. I think parents stay awake all night almost as much as their children anxiously awaiting holiday mornings.
One very important thing I've learned is that we need to respect each other. There's far too much hate and prejudice in the world these days. No one should be judged harshly because of their race, religion, gender, etc. Life is too short. We need to live, laugh, and love.........make the most of every day we have together. These are some of the lessons I've learned so far.
