Your title. Hah! You thought I was going to condemn your lifestyle choice didn't you. It's ok, the subject line is a bit misleading.
To start, I have no intent on attacking anyone for anything. And the information I'm about to share may be old news to some of you. But I just need to type something, and I love controversial topics.
You see, I do not like using the term "lesbian" to describe female homosexuals, even though it is common parlance these days, and even embraced by that community. You see, lesbian is derived from Lesbos, an ancient name for an island near Turkey. I can't remember the exact coordinates, but it's there. Now this island did have a preponderance of rather liberated women, after some civil strife and whatnot. It is also the birthplace of Sappho, a poet who is thought to have written many a poem about the love she shared with other women. Thus why the term became popular. However, it would be more appropriate to name a female homosexual a sapphist (even though it is generally accepted nowadays that she was in fact bi) rather then a lesbian. The reason for this was that Lesbos women were known world wide (the known world that is) for a particular talent. And it wasn't bedding other women. In fact, from what we know of the island, most of the women were either straight or mildly bi. What the women were known for was their skill in fellatio. Men from all of the various city states of Greece as well as Egypt, Macedonia, and Crete would stop off at Lesbos during trade runs or whatever just to partake of the legendary oral skills of the Lesbos women. Of course there were various other sundry acts committed, but the real attraction were the superior lips and tongues of these women.
Now, I admit that I don't know a lot about the average lesbian, what with it being in vogue these days and popular media fawning all over the "cute" couples. But I'm pretty sure that most lesbians don't swallow penile shaft. At least not real ones, I'm not too sure on the prevalance of dildos in an oral capacity. It's a moot point anyway, as the term will stick as it's definition and connotations have changed, and many people are just not educated in ancient history. Much like using "Gay" to describe most homosexuals, mainly the male variety. I hate that usage too, as gay means happy and bright. And I DO know quite a few male homosexuals, most of them are anything but happy and bright. But as long as the origins are known, then maybe ya'll will think a second before labeling yourself a world-class cocksucker. I'll continue my crusade to change the moniker to something more appealing. At least I'm trying.
