So, I've been playing with the malonette for a few days now and I've come to the unfortunate realization that I am completely back at square one. Of course, I knew when I was designing it that I would have to take some time to learn it, but, until it was finished and I got my hands on it, I didn't quite understand just how clueless I would be. When I learned mandolin, I was able to apply some of my guitar knowledge to it and I had a couple of books. When I started on fretless bass, it had markers where some of the frets would be and it's tuned the same as the bottom 4 strings of a guitar so it wasn't that hard. Even when I started working on keyboards about a year ago, I already knew where the notes were and knew a few chords. It's been a long time since I've had this much work ahead of me. Actually, come to think of it, I've never had to work this hard to learn an instrument. At least a guitar has frets so I knew where the notes were, even if I didn't know what to do with them yet. This is going to take a while, but it'll be worth it.
Ok, enough whining, onto the amusing part. On one of the forums that I post on, when I mentioned that the malonette was done, someone jokingly said that I should build another and play dueling malonettes. Of course, I had to record it
(only with one :p ). I couldn't figure out the fast part, but you get the idea. LOL
