Ever notice, in this delightful country of ours, how many politicians tell us what needs doing? Ever seen them actually doing it? I've seen one or two try... love him or hate him, George Bush said he'd do something and made every attempt (ill-conceived or not) to back it up. But I find myself concerned with our current political leadershit.... leadership, totally my bad.
Look, I understand about "evil corporations" and "terrible oil companies..." I mean, we've all been hearing about them ever since the 60's, when people decided that it was "The Man's" fault, and that we were all being oppressed. Never mind that the ones bitching about it did, and still do, more oppressing than anybody else (don't agree? I give you exhibit "A" Political Correctness... A.K.A. the most ridiculous, and stupidly hilarious, assault on the First Amendment ever).
But I don't get it, An "EVIL" oil company rents out a driller, the platform fucks up and oil spews out. And what does our beknighted leadershit do? Point fingers and lays blame and basically won't touch this with a flag pole. Fair enough, I've worked in oiled waters, it's awful. BUT...
I present, Haiti, I present Various Tsunamis, I present... well, pretty much any seriously bad shit event in the last decade. "WE MUST DO SOMETHING!" they screamed. "LET'S BE AN AMERICA TO BE PROUD OF!" They shouted. And so money and foods and supplies and shit flowed from our hands to everywhere but here (with the SINGULAR exception of Katrina) and we were accomplishing something. And the oil has continued to flow through the water, disrupting the ecology and fucking up my newspapers ('cause I want... y'know, NEWS, not CNN's take on why BP is AWFUL and EVIL and various other overly used words) and are there Celebrities giving concerts and using that money to help clean this shit up? I'm not hearing about it. Are there idiot movie stars telling us about what we need to do to protect the fishies and shit? Not that I've heard.
Is it because there's all those white people in Florida? :-) Could be (Yes, I'm joking... I hope). It's not racist to hate white people after all (Yes, that's actually a direct quote from a fucking University "Professor" whose lecture I attended once, and yes he was being completely serious... I wasn't quite kicked out of the college for calling him a racist bastard, but it was way close... and I WAS kicked out of the class.)
And in the meantime, these environmentally conscious (let's face it, they want to charge me money for breathing and call it "carbon credits") Politicos are ignoring the environmental impact and just bitching about the Oil Companies.
