I stopped in to say hello to this darling mama and puppy combo as it may be the last time I see them together. They both came to their cage door, tails wagging, and both gave me a kiss through the bars.
Donations are up to $400 for a qualified rescue to save these two precious lives.

They are both at the South L.A. shelter.

With the shelter closed July 4th, there are only 2 days left before baby Bambi vanishes to goodness knows where. She's up for solo adoption at 8am Friday morning, and she is such a character, filled to overflowing with personality, that you know one of the many who have traipsed through the shelter looking for a pitbull pup will come back for her...leaving mama Muneca alone.
With the usual anticipated influx of dogs due to the July 4th fireworks, there will be less space. Less available space means more euthanasia. And Muneca, having been at the shelter a month already, will have outstayed her welcome .
IF YOU CAN DO ANYTHING TO HELP THIS MAMA AND BABY GET OUT OF THE SHELTER TODAY, PLEASE ACT NOW: IT HAS TO BE TUESDAY OR THURSDAY OR IT'S TOO LATE.

Sweet staffie mom Muneca, age 2, and her to-die-for cute four-week old puppy Bambi were dumped at the South L.A. shelter last Thursday by their owner.
Presumably, since only one puppy came in with mom, the rest were sold by this member of the barely-human race. Both were really dirty, so volunteer Mindy and I took mama outside for a sniff of fresh air (baby stayed in Mindy's arms), and then gave both a bath.
We put Baby Bambi into a big cage in the grooming room and left the door open. Mama Muneca immediately got in with her. As soon as I put down some food, Bambi bolted right over to it and started filling her little round belly. She stood with her back legs wide apart to make sure she got good traction on the floor so she could tuck in.
Her tummy is so round, I thought she must have worms. I was wrong. She had already been dewormed so I guess she just loves to eat. Mama was happy to stand by and let baby chow down. She only ate when puppy was full.
Next it was turn for baby to watch as I bathed her mama and got her squeaky clean. Muneca had some ticks, which I removed. (I didn't use flea & tick shampoo as she is still nursing--not that you'd know it. Bambi is already eating solid food, but I guess she likes a drink of milk to wash it down.
Then it was time for Bambi's bath. She is ultra adorable, and mama Muneca watched approvingly, trusting us to take good care of her baby.
We dried them off, then them back outside to pose for photos together. Look at how cute they are.
Muneca is such a good mom. She is watchful but not overprotective of her baby. She is a really sweet, loving girl who deserves to be in a home with someone who cares about her.
Bambi is not only cuter than a button--than a whole row of buttons--and she already has personality plus.
MAMA MUNECA AND BABY BAMBI ARE AVAILABLE TO BE RESCUED TOGETHER RIGHT NOW. THEY CAN GO HOME TOGETHER TOMORROW IF SOMEONE WILL SAVE THEM.
BAMBI IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION WITHOUT HER MOM UNTIL JULY 6TH. AND THEN WHAT?
CHANCES ARE SHE WILL GO TO A HORRIBLE HOME--THE FATE OF SO MANY OF THE POOR STAFFIE PUPS ADOPTED FROM SLA.
IT'S HEARTBREAKING, AND MADE EVEN MORE TRAGIC BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT MUNECA WILL BE LEFT BEHIND, PROBABLY ENDING UP ON THE RED LIST.
PLEASE--RESCUERS--SAVE THIS DARLING MAMA AND HER DARLING DAUGHTER TOGETHER BEFORE THE WRONG PERSON GETS THEIR HANDS ON THE BABY.
