It is a real pain when people THINK they know the basis for something, and they get it confused with something totally unrelated.
Take the Goth counter culture, for example.
I had one person telling me that Goths are nothing more than devil worshipers or worse, and are based on the Visigoth tribes of Europe.
Gothic, for those who do not know, relates to the style of architecture and life style of the late dark ages. The Cathedral at Notredom is an example of Gothic Architecture. The gothic movement of the late dark age and early middle age also included music, fashion, and poetry.
Today's Gothic counter culture is a modern revival of the movement, which includes all of the beliefs from the period, including vampires, shape shifters, fashion, music, and in some cases architecture.
These people are just the latest example of the gothic revivals, which has occurred over the last nine centuries. The United States is ripe with Gothic inspired homes and buildings, any building with gargoyles stems from these influences.
Perhaps if people would quit attacking others for their various lifestyles, and actually get to know them, we might have a lot less fighting amongst ourselves and even create a new movement called 'Understanding.'
