kids & schools

I understand that things are not like when I was in school, But I do believe that things are getting out of control when a 14 year old girl cant carry a small purse to school and the kids cant have a cell phone on them while in school either. I am not saying kids should be allowed to have cell phone on and using them during school hours, but I do believe that they should be allowed to have them with them off and in a book bag or purse until the end of the day. why ?? Well in my case my daughter rides public buses from school home and if something happens like the bus breaks down or what ever I want my daughter to beable to call me and let me know. Everyone knows that now a days it takes 2 people to work to make it, and we all cant be home every day when our kids get home and at 14 they dont need a sitter any more, so in reality that cell phone is her life line to her parents. I was told recently that if my daughter brought her phone to school again that the school would not give it back til the end of the year, What B.S !! we told tthe school that we tell her to take it and that if they had an issue with it, we would have her take it to the office in the am and then pick it up there after school on her way out, so there would be no problems with her using it during class hours.do you believe they still said NO. what a crock!! The next thing I get home is a letter saying that the girls at the school can NO longer carry purses to school its a security issue..and that no book bags are allowed to be carried in the classrooms. I can understand the book bags but whats up with the purses for the girls..If your a female and you can remember back to when you were 14...I think you can understand where I am going with this... At 14 girls you know have thier time and its already a rough issue for them, at least with a purse they can ask to use the restroom and no one can see it, but with out being allowed to carry a purse what are they suspose to do shove it in thier pockets or carry it out in thier hands ...Come ON this is over board. I know everyone wants to make sure the kids are safe in school, I agree with that, I know that nothing is like it was 20 years ago, times change and all that, but I still think something isnt right here. Let see here 20 years ago if you were "bad" your parents beat your ass.. not now a days use time out so the kids can sit and think about what they did .. (Ok ill sit and think about who just pissed me off and how I can get them back for it) back in my day you sat after they beat your ass so you could remember how bad you butt stung from getting it slapped. I guess what I am saying is times have changed but isnt it the parents responsibilty to make sure that the kids are going to school with the proper morale values and with the correct attitudes?? I know some people dont want god stuff in the schools I am not a religous person but isnt part of the 10 comandment thou shall not kill ? were all so worried about pleasing a small population that we all forgot about our up bring. Nothing is perfect but if your an adult my age in your 30s or more how many of you can recall having a shooting at school, another kid killing another kid on purpose (planed ) MAYBE THE OLD WAYS WERE BETTER !! SOME TIMES CHANGE IS NOT ALWAYS THE BEST !!
