Hehe!

So today was day two in carrying out the lesson plan I made for Geometry (which I'm teaching to the fourth grade class I'm assigned to. Basically I'm having the students make short skits using the geometry terms in groups of three or four. One of the groups was having trouble deciding what to do so I started spouting off possible scenarious they could try. They decided they liked the idea of a game show. They quickly set to work on creating what they thought would be a good cross between funny and informational. I was relieved since these three students did not originally want to work together. Well, they began thinking that two of them would be contestants on the show and one of them would be the host. Well, the little boy that wanted to be the host is one of our students who loves to be funny and silly and creative...he felt that the only girl in the group should be the "nerd" that knew all the answers and the other boy in the group should be the "cool homie." The three debated for a few moments in front of me until I finally decided to chime in. My comment was "What's wrong with being a nerd? I was a nerd in high school..." That's when the little boy assigned as the host piped up and said "You're STILL a nerd Ms. Hastings." That was it...the three of them were rolling on the floor and laughing...literally! They could not help since this boy had said that to me. I smiled and said "Yes I am and I'm proud of it!" A few moments later they decided that the second boy would definitely be the nerd so I went over to the group and decided to tease them a bit and said, "Hey, tonight I'll see if I can find one of my old pairs of big, black glasses with white tape on them." The boy looked at me in disbelief and started to freak thinking out. I cracked a smile and assured him I didn't actually own a pair of glasses like that. Hehe...so much fun! I'm loving teaching. The students are great and my mentor is great and the whole experience is just proving I should teach. And I'm really loving the fourth graders I'm with! That age is just so fun to teach and work with. :-D Anyways...I have my first interview next Wednesday at 5pm with the school I currently student teach at...so wish me luck! I would love to work there! I think I'd miss my students from this year soooo much if I could not at least see them in the hall if not have them in my own class next year. :) That is all for right now...hehe :)
