The job of a plumber requires some specific skills and capabilities about the repair, installation and replacement of plumbing fittings in any man-made structure, such as homes, buildings, dams, stadiums, workplaces etc.
These skills or technical aspects of the job of plumbing requires the reading of drawings and specifications of a layout of water supply in a building, its waste management system and its venting systems. Also, detecting the faults in the plumb fittings, pipelines or plumbing appliances and then diagnosing its causes and correcting them are highly necessary for a plumbing technician. Installation, maintenance and repairing the commercial, domestic and industrial type of plumbing fittings and fixtures are yet another technical knowledge that these plumbing technicians require. Other technical aspects include, measuring of the pipelines and fixtures, bending them according to the use, threading of pipes, use of various power tools and hand tools, joining the pipes and fixtures together, welding and soldering the joints, making suitable threaded fittings, compression fittings and push-on fittings, locating the damaged region, or a leak inside the pipeline, marking the positions of the damaged area and making suitable arrangements to gain access to those areas to repair them.
The job of a plumbing technician is that of a very specific nature and requires specific capabilities. It has many occupational hazards related to this job, such as accidents during a pipe burst or, accidents during repairing plumbing fitting on a high building etc. We should appreciate the work of these plumbing technicians, because without them no man-made structure would have been worth living.
